Popular Post Stubbsy Posted November 17, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 17, 2014 Some absolute quality on the 100 Club discs but for me it's Paramount Four "Sorry Ain't The Word" all day long 4

Ady Croasdell Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Little Ann, Sweep It Out In The Shed, great tune too, although I like Tobi Larks too. Wake up at the back! That wasn't on an anniversary single either.
Corbett80 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) Larry Banks & Jaibi - My Life Is No Better Wee Willie Walker - I Don't Want To Take A Chance The Waves (Tandells) - Is It Love Hytones San Franciscan TKO's All sublime....like some of the best soul records I've ever heard. First time i heard that Larry Banks I nearly fainted on Fudge and Nick Hackett. Edited November 18, 2014 by corbett80 2

Steve S 60 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Always loved "This Man" by Wally Cox, and the slower version on the 100 Club single is even better.
Guest CapitolSC Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 There all Brilliant but Debra Johnson/Diplomats gets my vote Al H
Guest Polyvelts Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 "I don't want to take a chance" & "Go Away"

This is a quality soul record. Peter
Peter99 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I can't remember if I said what my favourite were! From the ones I know it's Chuck Jackson - number 1, followed by John Edwards. As has been said some great records - well done Ady. Peter
Jim Elliott Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Impossible to choose. Such a broad spectrum of music is represented. A particular fave of mine is the little mentioned Wally Cox 'other version' of "This Man" My big regret was missing the Hytones anniversary as I had to work last minute! They all look very nice in the box however. ( he said smugly) Jim;) 1
jocko Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Carla Thomas - Poptastic, Simon, normally all your posts are spot on but on naughty step for me with that one. That record reminds me of just the best times of life, and the communal joy that was in the 100 Club when it was played over the years was immense, and even at the party it still touches and tingles, but at time of its initial plays it just took you to another place and all the other cliches about the dance floor experience. Its a feeling that drags people back week in and week out, if you still get it. I suspect due to age, cynicism and apathy I will never get that feeling again. Which sometimes hurts to think off. But every time I listen to it, it takes me back there, and I put the gin down and just smile. Even playing it at Allanton, which was way past its first plays, it had the place buzzing, and smiling. The best last record, that I always played 4th or 5th last to start the journey to the end. So just in case there is any doubt. That is the best. You lot can carry on debating what is second best. 3
Guest Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 ...I nearly fainted on Fudge and Nick Hackett. Is that Cockney rhyming slang!?! 3
Guest Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Being busy and narrowing it down: Melba Moore - thumper Carla Thomas - too perfect Chuck Jackson - sublime Teardrops - stomper Sharon Scott - underrated Dean Courtney - classic Lorraine Chandler - can't be bettered San Franciscan TKO's - bass Debra Johnson - recorded what year? Diplomats - genre topping Magicians - northern soul Hytones - almost standard nuff said. 1
Corbett80 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Is that Cockney rhyming slang!?! Yes, old cockney for 'nudge and bracket' 1
Mattbolton Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 It's gotta be the SF TKO's/Peggy Gaines double sider for me. Quite possibly the best two sides ever committed to one record. The soul world is incredibly lucky to witness both of those records I think. 1
MrsWoodsrules Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Wake up at the back! That wasn't on an anniversary single either. Sorry guys, must pay more attention to what the thread is actually about, I was just naming my fav tunes I believe to be out of the 100. I'll get me coat!

Ady Croasdell Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 For the record, Sharon Scott's my favourite and Johnnie Taylor/Judy Clay the most underrated and best double sider.

Val (Chunky) Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Mayberry Movement - I Can See Him Making Love To You is very inoffensive too......infact it's THE version for me 1
