Mike Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 lets try this ... Same as the just gone Soul Comp one the idea is just get going a bit of light hearted members soul talk with a off the cuff poll type affair All after this time is members nominations for what they consider what was to them their very own 'Top Soul Event of 2015' Guidelines - Please follow Only nominate events that you were not involved running or dj-ing One nomination per member please, make sure you give the month of the event as well Give a reason for your choice, and try and keep it all in the xmas spirit! eg "The Soul Ultras Night back last August - was a great night that...etc etc' Will count up in 7 day if all goes well Happy Xmas! mike Over to you....
Steve G Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Gladys Knight UK tour in the summer. Because she was brilliant.
Mike Lofthouse Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Some great events this year for me - don't have a problem with promoting or Djing disqualifying me! Steve mentioned Gladys Knight -saw her at the Sage Gateshead.... Ann Sexton at the Wilton in November was superb.... Bilbao in October was as wonderful as ever - fantastic city and a great weekend - plus now live entertainment every year - Michael James Kirkland this year. but the highlight for me was .... The Ponderosa Stomp in New Orleans - 2/3 Oct - held every two years - this year included Brenda Holloway, Betty Harris, Jimmy Jules, Tony Owens, Barbara Lynn, Irma Thomas, Mable John, Roy Head and Willie Hightower - don't think I'll ever see a line-up like that again!!
Guest Polyvelts Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 George Clinton at koko in London, still crazy after all these years !!!
Kev John Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) THE 1st Spirit Allnighter @ The Box, Crewe, 12th December The vibe was awesome on the night Music policy was so right for this venue & very refreshing to the scene Well promoted & organized A must do for soulies with open minds atb Kev Edited December 31, 2015 by Kev John

Ik001 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Best event for me and my wife has got to be Twisted Wheel (Alter ego) Manchester. Being of that age 60+ no frills, no emphasise on playing "rare". Not many posers, a few o.a.p's reliving their youth i.e. smart suits and just a very good Sunday afternoon out. The three that stand out have been when Sean Chapman, Yocky and Mr. Taylor have guested. Highly Recommended!!
Leeky Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Best value event for me as to be Soul in the Sun, Tenerife Best UK weekender in my opinion is Butlins Northern Soul weekender Best single event nationaly Twisted Wheel/Alto Ego Sean Chapman (Nov) Best local do is The Stables at Wolverhampton. Pete Leek
The Happy Hooker Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Best event for me (and Mrs H. H) is the Leeds Central Descending the steps in the Central is like entering a Tardis and stepping back in time. This place OOZES atmosphere, as one guy said ".....if you could bottle the atmosphere here you would make a small fortune", this place is so nostalgic and different from the eponymous, souless (excuse the pun) events held in various hall's around the UK,............ Leeds Central, small, crammed, low ceiling small dance floor, outstanding music and DJ's ...........................................................................I just love it, if you were around in the sixties/seventies this is the place to re-kindle the memories Dave
Little-stevie Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I hope we get a good cross section of views from this broad church of soul music.. The problem is that we don't get enough feedback from genuine punters who ain't djs/ collectors or promoters.. Let's hope this topic changes that... 1
Tattoodave Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 The 6T's Soul Club's Anniversary allnighter at the 100 Club in September. It's awesome music policy, fun atmosphere and the free single make it worth every penny of the return flight from Malaga. 1
Woodbutcher Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 100 Club in September , 36th Anniversary , superb night as always ... the hair stands up as you descend into that heady atmosphere every single time ... 2
bobkayli Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Mitch Ryder at Prestatyn and the Contours at the Butlins Weekender. Two wonderful moments.

Mike Can't believe there has only been 8 responses to your thread With 1000's of events in a year ! Either Soulies dunna go out much or there is a lot of ghost events ? I Know there are some great soul nights i've attended but i've DJ'd in the past so cannot count in because of the rules of the thread atb Kev Edited January 1, 2016 by Kev John 1
Mike Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 hi kev yep a bit of a lukewarm response numbers wise to say the least but was just a off the cuff sort of thing and as you say the 'not involved' thing may have been a factor so no porbs thanks to all who did pass on their nominations if do get a few more responses then will add up, if not then will just leave the topic as it is cheers and thanks mike 1
Woodbutcher Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 May be just that most folk out playing on the dancefloors aren't on SoulSource to vote .... and vice versa ...

Dde Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Grumpy Soul with Andy Rix guesting - just the best night of perfect dancefloor filling soul music from start to finish
Dooby Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Grumpy for me too. Great hosts, lovely folk and most importantly , fabulous records. Proper dj's with infectious enthusiasm. Andy Rix' spot was perfection 1
Winsford Soul Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Was working for Andy Rix grumpy but Joans Grumpy has to be up there with anything Steve 2
Widnes63 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 For me its Grumpys, Burscough & Redemption @ Prestatyn in no particular order because of the music policy, sorry for breaking the 'one event' rule. 2
Soap Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 HORSE & GROOM CHILLOUTS AT DONCASTER this venue is consistantly bloody great. the musical quality is of the highest order.now running into the 8th year and still as good as its ever been. in my humble opinion this place is totally unique and stands out like a beacon
Ady Of Newark Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Completely agree with Soap - Horse & Groom continues to set the standard for me, great event & great people both organisers and attendees. It's a testament to the quality of the event when you see how many people regularly travel great distances to be there
