Popular Post Pete S Posted December 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted December 18, 2015 WIGAN CASINO 4TH ANNIVERSARY – THE COMPLETE TAPE This is my Christmas present to everyone who has listened to any of my podcasts over the last year, anyone who’s favourite them, recommended them and taken the trouble to comment on them. You are going to love this, I hope. Previously I only posted the last 30 minutes of this tape because my original C120 had been nicked by someone I lent it to, but last year I met an old mate who had made copies of lots of my tapes 30 years ago and I was able to get back the missing two hours. So here is a real treat for you, the final 2 hours 20 minutes of the Wigan casino 4th Anniversary on 24th September 1977. I recorded this from the back of the room on a portable tape recorder. The first hour or so is fairly low fi, it improves dramatically in the middle and the last 30 minutes are great quality. So theirs is nearly all of Alan Rhodes’ set, all of Pep’s set (beginning with Lou Ragland), all of Martyn Ellis’ oldies set, and Russ’s last 20 minutes or so which features a spine-tingling “Three Before Eight” with truly epic clapping. There is no track listing for this sorry, have a listen and be surprised at what was actually played! All the best to everyone for Christmas and the New Year, and please keep listening and buying records off me…cheers…Pete https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/wigan-casino-4th-anniversary-the-full-tape-for-the-first-time/ 7
The Tempest Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Was always informed this was the best anniversary they had !
grant Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Great Pete this was my very first night at Wigan
Okehdownsouth Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Pete Absolutely fantastic! Thank you again for another great tape. Two things amaze me about this: 1) I was there and have forgotten a lot of the records. 2) How the hell did you manage to get a portable recorder to run for almost 2.1/2 hours without changing the batteries! My poxy Alba used to last about an hour at most before the two U2 batteries started to give up and the tape would run slower and slower until it stopped. If only I could have fed it some gear so that it was running at the same speed as me! ` I will have a hunt around the attic over Christmas and see if I can find any tapes that I made at the time I will send them to you
Bo Diddley Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Just finished listening. ELECTRIC atmosphere. And the last 10 mins, well ! Unbeatable.

Winsford Soul Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Pete. Along side many countless people Wigan was the greatest time of my Life . Loved and lost. But the friends I made and the music I heard will last me forever. Forever in your debt for this . It was indeed a very special night. Thank you again Steve

Steve L Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Would love to say I was there but didn't start going until about 6 months later...
Wicked Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Just come across this now, fantastic and yes I was there too.
Frankie Crocker Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I was there. Got the badge to prove it. Was a good night for sure as I couldn't hear for days afterwards. Have played the first few tracks a couple of times but storing up the whole tape to listen to in one sitting, nice and loud, when the missus is out.

I can remember being sick soon as I got off the coach back home, remember sitting out in the field waiting for the eyes to go back to normal...some nights you remember, some you don't, there's a hundred that I've forgotten about but it's usually the ones I recorded that I remember, mainly cos you can hear me and friends talking on them
Wicked Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I can remember that night quite well, quite a few of us from Llandudno went up on the train. Flogged my badge about 5 years ago on e bay. 1

I also was a recording freak early on, someone (Probably mum & dad) bought me an ITT "Portable" tape recorder and I used to load up with batteries and set it up behind one of the speakers in front of the stage, keep checking my Casio LED watch so`s I could replace or turn over the cassette and it was always where I left it!.....happy times
