Yesterday on Sounds of the Sixties Brian Matthew played Every Step I Take by the Hassles, an American group whose personnel included Billy Joel. I'm sure I've heard this song at recent soul nights I've attended including the last 100 Club allnighter. I did ask someone there who it was by and was told the Appointments. I checked on that most useful website SoulfulKindaMusic but it wasn't listed under the Appointments. Are there any other versions of the song by soul singers or groups or is it likely to have been the Hassles version I heard? It's a good record whatever genre you'd call it.

I hope this is the right forum for this query.

Hello Geoff

Yes it probably was The Appointments called 'Steppin' closer' on the very rare Dart! label, this doesn't seem to be on Youtube but to add to the confusion the record was re-issued? with the title 'Funny feeling' on the Redd Coach label

this can be found on Youtube here watch?v=TH9CttkJ-Ec

"Teardrops" on "Max" - It should be on you tube

Hi Des,

Thanks for replying. The Teardrops is the same song as the Hassles, a similar arrangement but it wasn't the version I heard. That was the Appointments as I was told.

Cheers,

Geoff

Hi Dazz,

Thanks for  your reply. You're right, it was the Appointments I heard at the 100 Club and Lifeline, different arrangement to the other two versions.

Cheers.
