Lovemusic Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Remember it well. Still have the magazine in my archive. I was at art school too, like Graham, but in Wigan 73 to 76. 1
Davenpete Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 The lad in the red piped vest is Big Scotty from Stockport apparently.Dx
Jez Bishop Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 yes remember it & I too still have it in my yellowing archive. Always remember the E.Rodney Jones 45 pic & bought it later '76 because of that photo ;)
Jez Bishop Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 ... and of course this was when the Sunday Times was a decent paper - before Murdoch got hold of it !! 1
Peter99 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Anyone remember this featureFeb 1976https://grahamefowler.com/gfpov/?page=5 memory says it was one in a series of features Nice post Mike. Looking at the faces on some of those photographs makes you think that it wasn't just the Sunday Times that was proper back then!
Frankie Crocker Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Remember it well. An excellent take on the Casino at the time. Picked up a copy a few months ago on eBay - it was a joy to read. The Times was, and still is, the best paper on a Sunday bar none so it treated the topic with the reverence it deserved unlike contemporary commentators on the scene who peddle the freak-show/Frank Wilson/mad collectors/dance on the hands stuff that just doesn't wash with long term devotees. 1
Diddy Morgan Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 The lad in the red piped vest is Big Scotty from Stockport apparently. Tim okeefe there also . Great lad lost far too young.
Steve L Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Turned up for school one Monday morning and a lad said to me "you're into that northern soul stuff aren't you? This was in yesterdays paper" He gave me the article which I still have, the large photo of which was used in the book to accompany Northern Soul the film...
Richard Free Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Remember a few of the faces on there but not names .Always got along very well with Scotty obsessed with jayboy label I seem to remember
Steve L Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Simmo from Notts is on one of the smaller photos, known him for many years but didn't realise this until a few months ago
Mike Posted October 20, 2015 Author Posted October 20, 2015 Was it the week before or maybe after that a similar feature was published about the Canvey island 1940s/swing 'revival' or is that a shot away brain cells recall ?while on the askhas any scans of 'The Suns' double page feature on Wigan surfaced yet ?Memory says it featured large page size cutout of Sandy and Neil (yep?) on each page, can't remember the rest apart from it was what you would expect
Geoff Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 ... and of course this was when the Sunday Times was a decent paper - before Murdoch got hold of it !!Well said sir.
