Pete S Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I thought I might do a series of these mixes featuring tracks made famous by the top Northern Soul DJ’s in the 70’s. Obviously, many DJ’s played the same records but I’m going from memory and audio evidence from tapes I recorded at the time. Richard was responsible for breaking more newies than anyone (with the help of ace soul supplier John Anderson) and his later period spins are amongst the best records ever played on the scene in my opinion. That Eddie Garrigan is still sh*t though. There may be one or two ‘speed’ problems on this, I promise this is the last time I ever use the old decks, I’ll go back to two separate turntables from now on, it’s too much hassle keep trying to mend the old ones. Anyway this is a brilliant set of sounds, and to spare Richard’s blushes I didn’t include Gary Lewis & The Playboys… THE EMBERS – WATCH OUT GIRLRICHARD (POPCORN) WYLIE – ROSEMARY WHAT HAPPENEDTHE INSPIRATIONS – NO ONE CAN TAKE YOUR PLACEEDDIE REGAN – PLAYIN’ HIDE AND SEEKJOEY HEATHERTON – WHEN YOU CALL ME BABYJIMMIE RAYE – PHILLY DOG AROUND THE WORLDJAY D MARTIN – BY YOURSELFLILLIE BRYANT – MEEET ME HALFWAYLYDIA MARCELLE – IT’S NOT LIKE YOUSHANE MARTIN – I NEED YOUPAULA DURANTE – IF HE WERE MINETONY MIDDLETON – PARIS BLUESTHE YUM YUMS – GONNA BE A BIG THINGVICKIE BAINES – COUNTRY GIRLEDDIE GARRIGAN – I WISH I WASJOHN LEACH – PUT THAT WOMAN DOWNBETTY BOO – SAY IT ISN’T SOJIMMY BURNS – I REALLY LOVE YOUEDDIE PARKER – I’M GONEJOE MATTHEWS – AIN’T NOTHING YOU CAN DOBEN ZINE – VILLAGE OF TEARSLARRY CLINTON – SHE’S WANTEDTHE 7TH AVENUE AVIATORS – YOU SHOULD O’ HELD ONTHE NOMADS – SOMETHIN’S BADJOHN & THE WIERDEST – CAN’T GET OVER THESE MEMORIESTHE PROFESSIONALS – THAT’S WHY I LOVE YOUMOSES DILLARD – I’LL PAY THE PRICECOURT DAVIS – TRY TO THINK (WHAT YOU’RE DOING)THE GROUP – I DON’T LIKE TO LOSELESTER TIPTON – THIS WON’T CHANGEAL WILLIAMS – I AM NOTHINGWILLIAM POWELL – HEARTACHE SOUVENIRSBILLY HAMBRIC – SHE SAID GOODBYEARIN DEMAIN – SILENT TREATMENTRAMONA COLLINS – YOU’VE BEEN CHEATINGROSE VALENTINE (LITTLE ANN) – WHEN HE’S NOT AROUND https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/northern-soul-richard-searling-spins-revisited/ 1

Mark R Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I wasn't around at the Casino, but we're all aware of the power of Dickie in those days, but when you see those listed together and credited to him, it really hits the point home,That's some list of tunes!! Cheers,Mark R
Dean Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Great choices Pete and great listening. My memory has Paris Blues wedged into Cleethorpes a while before it broke at the casino? Your knowledge is better than mine, just raising for a curiosity.
Pete S Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Dean I never went to Cleethorpes mate so can't answer that one - Russ, Pep and Richard all played Paris Blues at Wigan end of 76
Godzilla Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I associate Eddie Garrigan with Sam (Johnny Moore c/u). Not saying Richard didn't play it mind.Bloody impossible record to sell nowadays
