Hi,

I watched a british detective series, George Gently, series 5 episode 5, titled Northern gently.

There is a song at the beginning of the programme, its a second song, start of the scenes.I am trying to find the name of the song but I am totally lost and cannot find it on the internet but to no avail. I cannot even find it on youtube.

It sounds like 60s american soul. The lyrics go like this

'Oh true love, what I feel for you,
true love, i need it so bad,
true love, come on now baby
Now that I have found my true love
Oh true love, all of the time
true love, you send me out of my mind

.........................
I used to see you in the neighbourhood
i always thought you looked so good,
i said  baby will you come out with me
she said i'll tell you know when i'll be free
Eventually, I took her out that night
we danced till dawn and it was out of sight
i said girl, this can't be true, I can never be without you.

I couldn't catch it all. Please could you any of northern soul experts name this song. Its much appreciated.

HI Peter,

Thanks, I just checked that song on youtube, its definitely not that song.. Its doing my head in. I emailed  findmemylyrics and they totally have no idea. I can't believe. Its a male artist and the beat is up-tempo, dancefloor type.

I checked the IMdB for that episode, its not there either.

It's actually the first episode of series five, although it's possible they were shown in a different order outside of the UK.

The episode opens with Aretha Franklin - I say a little prayer.

Next up is The Olympics - Baby do the philly dog, followed by Patti & the Emblems - I'm gonna love you a long, long time.

That's followed by Chuck Woods - Seven days is too long, and the Four Tops - Sweet was the love (I think - the song plays quietly in the background).

None of those match your lyrics!

there was a post in the original topic about the soundtrack changing on later repeats and 'library' type tunes being used in place of the above

the other thread has more info

Sorry, I meant episode 1. Thank you Russell. This is very strange, I recorded this episode from the alibi channel last week which is from the SKY package i have and I live in the UK. i googled those songs you have mentioned from IMdB and I noticed, the lyrics I noted down are not the same on any song in that list on IMdb. I swear, these are the lyrics and it was quite loud and clear,  i heard in the dancing scene at the beginning, I thought the song would have been named 'true love' as it was repetitive words throughout the song. I don't know but it definitely was a genuine 60s soul song.

I can't even give a youtube link because, they have blocked out the audio as well. Only thing is record it on my phone.

Thanks guys for your help, I feel I am at a dead end, but will keep trying.

I have the DVD package in the UK, so I'll see if it's a pre music change version on there when I get back in mid September if you like.

I will be ever so grateful. It so bugging me. I have it on my sky box and recorded the programme. I didn't realise they change the music in different versions.

Alot of the songs listed in IMdb are not the same in the programme version I saw, but I recognised Frank Wilsons's 'do I love you' 29 minutes into the programme. I am new to Northern Soul so, my knowledge is limited.

thank you all again guys.

My pleasure, you may need to give me a prod as my memory isn't what it was.

My friend  found this from the show. he is saying, it mighten not be a proper song but 'it maybe it's just a one-off riff for a TV show, done '60's style. Mightn't be an actual song though'. His words.

To me it sounds like a proper composition of a song though. It looks to professional to be a concoction of the writers and composers of the series. Hope you get what I mean here.

OMG!, you found it. That is it. Thank you, Thank you. I want to buy it on CD, do you think it will be on a compilation?

All you guys have been fantastic. thank you all for helping me. I want to send a cyber hug to you all and send chocolates. You guys are amazing

I thought it would take me months to go through thousands of records.

Sorry to ask one more question, is there a radio show I can listen to this kind of music and a book to read? Do they have live venues like concerts to listen to this music in London?

I just want to educate myself abit. I know the basics of the background and the famous casinos in the north of the UK but that's about it.

I want to buy this song, but cannot see it on Amazon, is there anywhere I can buy it on CD, I can't buy vinyl because I do not have a record player. Thanks.

I think you can only buy a download from that Audio Network site. Not available on CD.

There's several events in London that play even better music than that. The events section on this site will give you details.

It's on Youtube, and there's a nifty app that will download it as an mp3 if you have windows 7 or 8

Omg! This song is on youtube, I spent so much time sifting through so many songs and I couldn't find it. You are a star tattoo dave. How can I download this? Thank you.so much.

This is such a good place, this website. You guys are so knowledgeable. Just out of curiosity, are there still more songs which haven't been heard yet or have all the northern soul records have been documented?

Off topic.   Don't you have a Morrisons near you Peter?  That's where I buy Old Jamaica, well the one in Gibraltar sells it anyway.  Going tomorrow and will post a couple of bars if you're desperate.

There's an app called "simple Youtube to mp3" that will allow you to download any Youtube track onto you computer and turn it in an mp3 file, very handy for stuff that isn't in your collection, whether vinyl or CD's.  If you can't find the app and want a file just pm me with your email address and I'll send it to you, problem solved

Is that Casares Playa, or Casares proper?  Stopped at Manilva to pick up some grapes on the way back.  Bought myself some Absolute for £7 a litre, and a bottle of Bells for less than £6 a litre.   I'm in Riviera del Sol, golfing haven of the down at heel.
