Tomangoes Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Come on then Mecca lovers, who was Ralph, in the 'Your like a Pig Ralph' line after the FB ate the whole thing. Such a contrast in music styles played there. Only went twice at the revivals around 1979/80. Ed
Guest Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 US ad company Wells, Rich and Greene produced TV commercials for Alka-Seltzer in 1972 featuring a guy called Ralph who frequently overstuffed his stomach, with the tag line "I can't believe I ate the whole thing". Whereupon his smug wife would reply, "You ate it, Ralph". It wouldn't have been that old when they made their record. (See also Joe Stanberry) I need to get out more.
Tomangoes Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Great Story. I bet any big guys called Ralph had to have it around that time, just like everyone called Gordon was deffo a Moron. It makes you wonder where these songwriters find the inspiration to pen such obscure lyrics, especially in Northern Soul records. 'Tired old ladies kissing dogs' 'Excuse me while I kiss this guy' 'Don't know where you are or where you've been, you been living a life of sin' Inspirational or what. Worse still I always sing along. Ahhhh. Ed
Pete S Posted November 17, 2004 Author Posted November 17, 2004 The Simpsons refers to this occasionally, Homer after a typical feast pats his stomach and says "I can't believe I at the whole thing"...I think it's in the school reunion episode
Paul R Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 'Don't know where you are or where you've been, you been living a life of sin' Ed link I always thought it was "You've been dropping amphetamine" or have we done that thread before!
Paul R Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Around this time does anyone remember Levine with his leg in plaster. He started getting pretty pissed off with us singing the first few lines from "I'm your Pimp" as in "I wear my hat to the side & walk with a limp" 1
