Popular Post Russ Vickers Posted August 10, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 10, 2015 I noticed recently that the Chess & Capitol Box sets are being bought, & sold as individual 45's, same as some did with the Numero & other box sets. You can do what you want with em once you've bought em, but to sell them on at £40 a pop for one 45 is a blatant rip off & some unsuspecting people will fall for this...the box sets are only £52 ish, depending where ya get em FFS....so people, do not encourage these thieves, buy the whole box ya self, it'll only be another £12 or summat....Best Russ 6
Illusive Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Well said Russ.Saw a post in 'Sales' this morning of one seller trying to jump on the band wagon and rip some poor unsuspecting soul of to the tune of £40 for Etta James, and omitting to mention that this was a new release.Hopefully buyers will do a little research before stumping up their hard earned before splashing out on one disc when they can the whole box set for a tenner more.Gav
Tlscapital Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Easiest way to stop those tricky dealers splitting these "boxes" is to not buy those ready made northern soul look alike packages in the first place. That way those "record" companie$ will lose interest on issuing such gadgets in the future. And like so no more rip off splittings... 1
Spacehopper Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I agree russ ..not good at all...as far as not buying the box sets in the first place, its the only way to get a legit copy of etta james dean 2
Pete S Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Selling the records separately isn't ripping anyone off though. I know very well I can buy a box set but I only want one track, George Kirby, so I'm happy to pay £30 for that because the rest of the records wouldn't get played cos I've either already got them or don't need them.
Russ Vickers Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) Yes, but Pete, knowing you, you would sell t'others on at a reasonable price, not 3/4 of the value of the original entire box set, which was my point...Russ Edited August 10, 2015 by Russ Vickers
Mark R Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Some people love the scene but some love money more Russ!! That's the mantra that comes into my head everytime I see these stories.......... Cheers,Mark R 2

Chalky Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 It's not just box sets. As soon as any new release on a 45 is out they are bought by some and sold for two or three times the original price. The Ola Onanule "Soultown"45 is up for sale on here at 20 quid when it can be bought for less than half that elsewhere online.
Soul-slider Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Shop around, and you can get each box set for £40 at What Records.https://www.whatrecords.co.uk/items/67480.htmhttps://www.whatrecords.co.uk/items/67479.htm Just got a Capitol set off there. Cheapest going but postage is fairly high.Listening to the Alexander Patton track propelled me to buy, fabulous record and worth the money just for that one. Edited August 13, 2015 by Soul-Slider
