Corbett80 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Try the Sultans 'I Wanna Know' on Ascot - stupidly similar and 1/16th of the price. Edited July 30, 2015 by corbett80
Peter99 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Don't like it.Sounds like a Eurovision Song Contest entry. 2
Swifty Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Don't like it.Said in a 'Little Britain' voice lol !!! 1
Mal C Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 saw that, Tim Brown had one didn't he some years back, nice to hear the flip as well on that listing...That said, its mediocre garage track really, I dont much of it at all, might be rare but musically its not a very impressive track.. Malcolm 1

MalcolmThat's never a garage record Mal!
Peter99 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 That's never a garage record Mal! And it's certainly not a soul record Godz!
Mal C Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 listen to the flip on eBay, then listen to the track again... its a white garage record, although it has a soul feel to it, you can hear where they are coming from...
Gene-r Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Why do I think of "Mrs Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" by Hermans Hermits when I hear the intro? 2

MalcolmI seem to recall Tim selling his copy after he realised they were a white band ..but some would say " isn't it obvious after one listen" ? 2
NEV Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Try the Sultans 'I Wanna Know' on Ascot - stupidly similar and 1/16th of the price.Problem is ,if you actually heard D.C Magnatones first and wanted it .. Sultans is inferior imho Joel
Corbett80 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) I'd say it's just as good myself. You just like DC better coz it's more money! Edited July 30, 2015 by corbett80

Not making a big deal as it's a neither here nor there record to me, but I do like a bit of snarly garage Seems they were regarded as a Righteous Brothers type act locally, however. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/27/AR2009062702274.html 2
Popular Post Mal C Posted July 30, 2015 Popular Post Posted July 30, 2015 you know what, forget these two, DCM / SULTANS and buy The Uniques - Not Too Long Ago, save yourself a load of cash and get a better track while your doing it... 4
Corbett80 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) I like all three 45s BUT I'd agree with that as it goes - Uniques is a beautiful record Mal. £10? Yes please. Edited July 30, 2015 by corbett80 1

Godzilla Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Uniques is a fucking beautiful record Mal. £10? Yes please.I have one for £8 in sales...
Corbett80 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Would you take £7? Edited July 30, 2015 by corbett80
NEV Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Would you take £7?Be careful you don't buy the one that is just Joe Stampley without the Uniques .. made my ears bleed lol 1

Thanks for posting. Evidently they were doo-wop influenced and perceived themselves as a soul group. The Sultans recording also sounds pretty good also. 1
Bazza Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I love the record ,wish I had one ,Sultans is ok, but no cigarBazza 1
Sammy Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I love D C Magnatones. I really like Sultans as well, but it is the Magnatones that takes it all the way home. Garage or blue eyed? Yeah sure. Soulful? Oh yes! :-) 2
Quinvy Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Are you lot deaf? You'd have to be to listen to this lot Tony. 2
Corbett80 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 You'd have to be to listen to this lot Tony. Yeah what you said tony! 1
Markw Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 you know what, forget these two, DCM / SULTANS and buy The Uniques - Not Too Long Ago, save yourself a load of cash and get a better track while your doing it...Tell you what, best idea of all? Forget all three, save yourself even more cash. Don't buy ANY of them because they really are all horrible dreck-laden pop-shite and buy some soul records instead................no need to thank me folks. My advice comes free. 3
Corbett80 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Someone liked one of 'em enough to pay £1200 for a f*cked copy last night! Edited August 3, 2015 by corbett80
Vadnochka Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 maybe not but as usual a big ticket ebay sale invariably smokes them out to try and get a similar resultlets see if we get some more Robert Tanners', Joseph Moore, Sheepherders - etc - Carolinasoul trousered $15000 + over the weekend for some rare? but mainly beat-up sounds - feeding frenzy as usual - I watched amused and contented myself with a $18.50 Topics - Man - I can live with the slight crackKeep on looking
Quinvy Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 What I can't understand about eBay sales is, why will someone pay a huge premium for a record from an American seller, yet won't pay bugger all for the same record being sold by a UK seller? 2
Frankie Crocker Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Seller did well on this item given it's defects. I got my copy from Les Moss many years ago, tempted by the 'only known copy' sales pitch. The record came from a member of the group when Les was based in the DC area. Les said he had also seen one very battered copy at some point in time. I heard someone spin this at the 100 Club over a decade ago and it went down well enough. I've seen it pictured in Manship's Million Dollars book and an American book of rare records. The two recent copies sold probably keep the quantity known to below ten copies but there are likely to be some hidden away in obscure collections remote from DJ styluses. Maybe not a sound from the very top drawer but still a worthy collectors item that very few will ever get to hold.
