The thread about Ernie Bush 'Breakaway' made me think. With that, there's Toni Basil, Valentines, Linda Lloyd and Steve Karmen. Five different songs, all played out and all called 'Breakaway'. A couple more and you'd have enough for a short spot.

Are there any other examples of multiple different records of the same title? Or is 'Breakaway' the winner of this entirely pointless category?

Dee Dee Sharp also sang What Am I Gonna Do.  I'd bet that I could look through my collection and find 10 more different songs titled "Breakaway" and 10 more titled "I Still Love You", and 10 more titled "I'm So Lonely" and 10 more titled "Don't Pity Me" (but then, fully half my collection was released during the 1950s (so it wouldn't be surprising).

If you dare to venture into the early 80s there's Breakaway with Paul Garrison on Three Stars.

Apparently 'Hold On' is the commonest song title ever (40 charting records with that title) although apart from The Radiants I can't find any other soul versions.

"Hold on" - Fascinations on Mayfield

"Hold on" - Marvin Smith on Brunswick

"Hold on" - James Carr on Atlantic

There's lots more with the words "Hold on" as part of the title but these were just a few more well known titles I could think of.

The James Carr song was written by Tommy Tate & Carson Whitsett.

Yes, I only mentioned the one by Marvin Smith, which was written by Van McCoy, as was Tommy Hunt's version - maybe I ought to have used Tommy Hunt as an example as it did actually come out before Marvin Smith's.

But as it was only an example of different songs with the same name rather than the first ones to come out, I wasn't really taking that much notice!
