Cheapsiderecords Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Just sat thinking of what to respond a came up with: Willie Hutch - Love Runs Out/The Duck
mischief Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 (edited) For me it would be "Cause your mine" Vibrations.. played Loud... Whatever I played them it would have too be uptempo.. so straight away the record made a point... Edited September 5, 2006 by mischief

BAZ A. Yep I agree ,you do mean the instrumental, and not the vocal version, was it Bob Relf who did the vocals....should have left it alone, the instrumental was pure Northern Bazza
Baz Atkinson Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Yep I agree ,you do mean the instrumental, and not the vocal version, was it Bob Relf who did the vocals....should have left it alone, the instrumental was pure Northern Bazza DEFFO THE INSTRUMENTAL. BAZ A
Guest Baz Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I always tend to go for Don Varner -- Tear stained face, Has every thing in a record strong, powerful, emotional male lead vocals, girl backing and an absolute pounder, being in mono absolutely makes the record what it is his vocals coming out of one speaker and horns ect pounding out the other
Winnie :-) Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Probably 'walk in my shoes', or 'tell me it's just a rumour' just to emphasise the connections between northern and the motown sound. Plus both of them are brill
Guest in town Mikey Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Probably 'walk in my shoes', or 'tell me it's just a rumour' just to emphasise the connections between northern and the motown sound. Plus both of them are brill I normally say Sandi Sheldon - You're gonna make me want you. Tell me its a rumour is a cracking choice tho Win.

Guest in town Mikey Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Salvadors - Stick By Me Baby..............................da da daaaaaaaaaa omphhhhhhhhhhh !!!! Russ You know Russ, when I first started liking Northern Soul, I just couldnt get this record at all. It was and is one of my brothers faves, but it just left me cold. Then Ady played it at the 100 club 2 months ago, and it made the hairs stand up on my neck. It was THE perfect record for that time of night, about 7.45am. The last blast before back to reality. It only took what, 28 years, and I finally enjoyed it as much as the rest.
Guest in town Mikey Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Just been trying to think of a more recent discovery that could be mentioned along with these great oldies. I absolutely love Margaret little, and that would just about be the best IMO. Joey DeLorenzo has all the 'oddities' of a Northern Soul record. Sung by a white bloke, and is not particularly soulful, but is in my mind 100% Northern Soul. And finally Tobie Bowe for anyone who wants to present a real soulful tune.
Guest vinylvixen Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Dance Dance Dance - The Casualeers (See 'Cutting My Ears Off' thread)....careful Richard...Steve Cato might Leave Leave Leave....I know Mr Rimmer is partial to this track tho Jo
Richard Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 ah but Jo it wasn't fav track it was one that defines Northern Soul - how could you describe it better to someone who doesnt have a clue than Dance Dance Dance
Winnie :-) Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 ah but Jo it wasn't fav track it was one that defines Northern Soul - how could you describe it better to someone who doesnt have a clue than Dance Dance Dance ========= Out on the floor springs to mind

Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Ok appart from Out On The Floor, what other record can better describe Northern Soul than Dance Dance Dance "There's That Beat, And I Must Dance, Now There's That Rhythm That Puts Me In A Trance, Well, That Beat And That Rhythm Just Keeps Movin' Up, It's Too Hot For Me To Slow Down, And My Feet Are Filled With Happiness And I'm Determined to Dance Around"... ...It was, it is and it always will be the absolute definition of Northern Soul. Even if I haven't got every single word right, every line of that verse speaks directly to the scene. Let's hear it, one more time, for the unbeatable Mr. Richard 'Jimmyconwell' Temple and his 'Beatin' Rhythm'... TONE
