Peter99 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Hi , can anyone recommend any Rare Groove CDs for a Novice .Ta Paul What sort of stuff Paul? 60's, 70's? Peter
Peter99 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Ian's Backbeat series are very good value - with a range of styles from crossover, sixties, modern etc. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0062Y9CNE Peter
Mal C Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) always get the Mastercuts volumes, great start.. and 'The 'Rare Grooves for the Dance floor' series has some nice stuff on it, they look very thrown together but have some interesting selections... also there was a great one in the 8ts/9ts called 'Shake and Finger pop' from the club night I guess, that was really good... also RARE - A Rare Collection of Grooves was a brill series... and the Funk Soul Brother series was also another must have... mal https://www.discogs.com/Various-Rare-A-Rare-Collection-Of-Grooves/release/484867 Edited May 25, 2015 by Mal C 2

Peter99 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Some of Keb Darge's compilations are excellent too - although some of them are quite hard to locate. P

Daved Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 The Rare Groove Selection, but the price is way over the top on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Original-Groove-Selection-Various-Artists/dp/B0009YVCRM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1432581671&sr=1-1&keywords=rare+groove+selection

I keep telling people to buy 'em whilst they're out! Ian D
Soulfinger Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Another one of mine Dave. I keep telling people to buy 'em whilst they're out! Ian D It's a great comp but to be fair it's a available for £7 on Discogs.
Scotters Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 As well as all the Mastercuts series and others mentioned, I remember buying these two from Streetsounds at the same time, circa '88. https://www.streetsounds.co/Rare_Groove.htm Urban Records put out some good comps of Polydoor releases at the time too "Urban Classcs" 1-3, some great stuff on these and you can pick up for couple quid each if you look around.

Jordirip Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 always get the Mastercuts volumes, great start.. and 'The 'Rare Grooves for the Dance floor' series has some nice stuff on it, they look very thrown together but have some interesting selections... also there was a great one in the 8ts/9ts called 'Shake and Finger pop' from the club night I guess, that was really good... also RARE - A Rare Collection of Grooves was a brill series... and the Funk Soul Brother series was also another must have... mal https://www.discogs.com/Various-Rare-A-Rare-Collection-Of-Grooves/release/484867 I think the RCA 'Rare' series of albums was far and away the best sets of rare groove compilations. If you can find the Midnight Music bootleg comps, they are also just as good if not better. (IMO)
