Of course it's the promoters fault the buck stops with the promoter who else can you blame.Im a promoter and have done promotions security wise over the last 50 years you can't start blaming the cleaners take it on the chin and tidy things up.

Maybe you could offer your services to Kev. If someone decides he's gonna head butt you he will have a few supporters, they're called 'the pallbearers'  

As I understand it, the victim was intimidated about possible consequences after the event. I assume the event had CCTV at the entrance, if the victim could look at the film and help Kev identify the alleged thug.

It may be helpful if identified, the alleged thug's picture could then be published on here so we all know to avoid him and promoters can ensure their security team keep a special eye open for him.   

We all want the same thing, a night of good music and dancing, lets keep it that way.

The comment of Mick's I was referring to is in post 28 but I agree with you both the buck stops with the promotion team and the security.  But as Mick did say bad incidents do happen and obviously questions arw going to be asked afterwards and improvements made to avoid future occurances.  I doubt anyone involved in security can say they have had an incident free life and that they and the team they work with have missed incidents.

 

But some responsibility has to rest with those who attend to alert any promoter and any security team to incidents they have missed or if you can see any incident about to kick off.

 

I don't know what those who attend Goldsoul events are like, I can guess and if what is said is true then I have no wish to ever attend any kind of event like it, I have no interest in the retro side of the scene and prefer to attend events that I do attend where it would appear to be a lot less hassle.  

 

I strongly believe it is time for memberships to return, but it has to be universal.  Maybe the cost of getting in as well.  £10 or £12 with a bar for 12 hours is bound to appeal to local idiots who lets face have no interest in the music whether that be Kings Hall or the local night club.

 

 

agree with you about no one in security have a incident free life but its how kev/goldsoul has handled this situation came out calling him an attention seeker yep in his hindsight he could of told security but he felt he and his wife had to leave venue to the possible idiot still outside waiting. as he said there must of been 30 years between them and felt intimidated. The way goldsoul has always trying to turn it around instead of taking it as a unforeseen incident and promise to look into improving security on dance floor area.  in essence as a promoter he has different values to you and mick and is his full time income(radio/promoter/etc) and thats the difference  between oldies events to smaller venues better run and isnt NORTHERN SOUL / MOTOWN its rare soul and under played music . Been interesting and eye opening thread but ive said me piece take care bud

Having been involved over the years in promoting Various soul events. It's not a bad thing for the promotors to be on the door every so often

so they can see for themselves what type of people are coming to their venue,before they are in,I'm sure you can easily see who's a true Soulie and who isn't, and who is a bad element and who isn't.

I know you must not be predudice against anyone,however I believe there usually is a sign saying the management reserve the right to refuse admission. This gives you the choice who goes in and who doesn't ,I'm sure this would nip in the bud the possibility of physical violence and resulting in a good night for all.I'm in no way trying to tell anyone how to run their venue but merely trying to help.

Also  could he be the local bad lad with a reputation..who maybe had half a dozen of his mates nearby ..pissed up and ready for a tear up which would have probably resulted in a mass brawl had Jim reacted ( a nightmare for the punters,promoters and the rep of the event..which would probably have killed the night stone dead) did Jim know this ?..who was Jim with ..just his wife or several friends who would back him up...is Jim a mild mannered man who does not like violence. if so he should have reported the incident to the security asap.and identified him.......What would I have done?...Who Knows..

All in all a bad experience for the fella and not what anyone wants to see at a Big Soul event...but unless you stop the passing public paying on the door...it aint gonna stop..

As a newbie 2 the scene I don't understand the many different music formats ! Is the tunes they play in the Windsor room @ KH the same as they play @ bids / the 100 club !! Does underground mean died on its feet !! Confusing plus some !!

The scene has more folk taking pictures on the dance floor than you can shake a stick at. The alleged thug may be in the background of these pictures so if everyone who took pictures PM'd them to Jim; he might identify the assailant and publish the picture of him on here. No need to trouble Kev, the individual will have his card marked at any future events he attends so security know to keep a special eye on him in case he repeats his actions on another person.
