Jim- First thing you should have done is to report it to the Kings Hall security. There were 10 guys there to help!

If you have any further information for me, just pm me and let me follow through. Fair enough?

Why doubt him Macca? The guys only recanting his experience of a night out with sociable and friendly people of the Soul Scene. Jim I'm afraid we meet knobheads in all walks of life (Even had em at Lifeline & Boomerang, infact most venues) and last weekend was your turn, usually their just a nuisance, like that last fly in the room you can't quiet see but keeps buzzing past your lug. As Mr Bird said, b*llox to spoiling other peoples night, he'd spoilt yours obviously, I had mine spoilt when some toe rag nicked my Baracuta  Jacket  and I'd have willing made a scene had I caught them. :boxing:

I'm afraid at the moment NS is the new Black, the Mini Skirt and Ben Sherman for the 21st Century and we'll have to deal with it until Punk makes a comeback. I think I might have put this on the Stoke Event thread also, just for the Promoters benefit.

 Spot. :shades:

Wasn't really doubting him Spot, I was just amazed that someone could have danced on or left the floor after such an incident. I think I would have been astounded at first then who knows what might have happened. The 'sounds very odd' comment was ill thought out. No offence intended Jim. The male handbagger bit was just a throw away comment too. Still trying to picture one! :-)

i would of thought if you had come on here and asked him to pm you with what happen and you could look into it and say u would do your best to try and keep his sort out, you could of got a lot of praise for being a concerned promoter not saying your not. Its happening at a lot of venues not just yours. its could of been a plus for you.

Everyone saying that would have flattened the guy etc. How do you know the perp wasn't a seven foot gorilla? The OP could have been badly hurt or even killed had he reacted. It only takes one punch.

Agreed, which is why I said "who knows what might have happened next". I don't really know. I'd have been flabbergasted at even an attempted nut. We're not spring chickens either.

So Kev some poor bloke gets nutted at one of your events and you see it as an opportunity to tell the world that its the countrys most succesfull allnighter . Not a ounce of concern about the guy that got twatted .

And you have the gall to say I make dickwad comments .  Like I said don't go to Stoke .

Not that I,m really that bothered just curious , how have I insulted the DJ,s ?

The bloke should have reported straight away not do nothing then whinge afterwards. As for dissing the DJs I thought that was the norm in the Midlands ?

Once an event, large or small, attracts the attention of the local beer monsters or becomes the local grab a granny night...its time to move on. Unfortunately, the problems been rife since the revival in the 90's and even some great venues/events have suffered from brawls breaking out. Late bars selling cheap beer with ineffective security...its going to happen. Keep dancing Jim.

And that is why it's more of an issue for the nostalgia scene - that is market / profit led.

Many of These events will create the offer to suit the wider potential market - becoming more commercial to non soul types which impacts on the type of attendee profile and ultimately the limitation of the playlist.

You take an event away from the fundamental principles of Northern Soul and ultimately; if you stretch too far you arrive at an event that does resembles something you describe BSB.

You're less Likely to see this at say Lifeline as it sticks to its principles and doesn't bow to wider market forces.

Back Street Blues whilst I have liked and agree with most of your comments and I realise it will always be more of a problem in Town Centre locations.. However if the Promoter wants to sort out the problem and is prepared to turn folks away who are at the wrong venue or or warn and eject unruly and drunken idiots the problem can be controlled

I have no grudge against Kev or Goldsoul and have been to numerous of their events in the UK and Spain, but IMHO and from observations I have seen for myself they do not listen or care enough about their loyal customers/punters who have given them their success

Hiya Fred...yeah we tend to share a similar outlook on here and other forums and I know you're fair and right minded and that you are out and about a lot more than most.

I could name several other genuine soul people who have taken the same stance as you regarding GS events. I've voted with my feet from several venues run by other promoters too though 'cos of agro or "agadoo". Victims of their own success maybe? Agree with you though, better security and a stricter door policy would cure it. ATB John.

I read your reasons why and thought it a pretty poor reason to be honest.  You let him completely get away with his behaviour, he probably spoiled it for others because of this and probably thinks it is ok to return and act like a dick again.  If he was a local p*ss head and was ejected he would probably have gone off in search of somewhere else to act the tw*t, never known anyone hang about after getting thrown out of a soul night waiting for vengence. I would imagine there would have been plenty around to look after you and see you to your car?

i'm not siding with or defending Kev or Goldsoul, I'm simply speaking as someone who has and is involved with a promotion.

This topic just seems to be turning into another bash Kev Roberts and Goldsoul topic rather than addressing what happened and what should have happened as a consequence.

Yes but those head butting dicks should be put through the nearest exit at 100 mph to show the decent people that they are safe in that venue and that type of behaviour will not be tolerated. No offence meant but if I had 10 men doing security for me I Would be asking questions how they missed that incident.

Keep on Pressing on Mick L

Agree no place for head butting dick heads. Feckers should be ejected or battered on the spot.  My point was that some on here are I think hinting that all newbys should stay away ... They are to me (head butters excluded) very welcome

sorry chalky disagree with you the guy felt threatened about leaving the venue and looked after his wife and himself this his the way he wanted to deal with it. i hope kev/goldsoul take this on board that there is issues and his 10 strong security to be more vigilant. ive been involved in promoting and its either a poor security firm or cause its a soul event thats not had much trouble previously security has let the guard down and let kev/goldsoul down as mick pointed out

In my opinion Stokes been in decline for some time now, the music seems to be the same old top 500 (nothing against the DJ's as I've heard many of them play 100 times better sets elsewhere, which makes me suspect that they're being told what to play) Then there's the attendees. The regular nighter crowd seem to be in decline, replaced by more and more handbaggers and drunks. I've only recently been discussing this with friends as to why we bother every 3 months or so, and the answer is because we get to see the people from far and wide that we don't see regularly. For me Stoke has become nothing more than a social event. I could happily spend the whole night outside chatting because I know I wouldn't miss anything inside. Now before you all go loosing your heads, this isn't a dig at the promoters. I know a few of them personally and know that their heart is still in the music, but have they created a monster?

I totally disagree with you on that point.. I would love and would return to Goldsoul venues if they would deal the problem... First they need to accept there is a problem, however as usual Kev entered this discussion by trying to belittle others

The last 2 Nighters I went at KH I witnessed fights, folks pi**ed up drinking on the dance floor and Disco Divas fooling around... Blackpool Nighters are a nightmare...Mick L mentioned about debriefings after incidents and security spotting troublemakers before they cause a incident... When others mention this on FB Kev refuses to debate or enter into any dialogue

isnt 10 just about the abnsolute minimal legal requirement for an event that size? doesnt seem like a lot to manage that size of venue with that amount of people in it.

I haven't seen anyone suggesting newbies shouldn't be allowed in, I for pne think the Nostalgia scene has a role as an entry route for newcomers to the real scene for those who graduate for want of a better term,

but a bit of nounce on what is happening in the venue and not refining your event to adapt to what the newbie wants over those of regular punters is what's required in my view.

Mick has already said not everything can nor will it in the future be seen by the security. I would imagine every promoter would be disappointed if something of this nature happened at their event it was not reported to someone involved, promoter or security.

Now I don't know the situation at Kings Hall, I haven't been for a while and it doesn't really interest me either.  I don't know if Kev is on the ball with security or not but it looks like some of those who attend don't give a f*ck for fellow attendees either.

Again I am not defending Kev, nor am I speaking up for him, I am simple giving the perspective from a promoters viewpoint.

Did no-one else see the incident? I would have thought that if it had been seen, any number of big lads (soul lads) would have gently dealt with the twat straight away, or was it because there were more twats and townies in there than soul fans and they chose to ignore it?

Hi Kev. What were the 10 security guys actually doing there apart from pocketing a proportion of the takings? Do the security team maintain a presence in the main room? Were there any female security personnel in attendance as they can be more effective than males when keeping the riff-raff out? Appears there is a security issue at the Kings Hall and at least one unpleasant customer should be prevented from entering in future. Would be interesting to hear if anyone on SS witnessed the incident in question and could relay the details to you via PM.

Well according to you this guy is looking for sympathy ?? well you should be looking for the culprit ?? and no it's not a lets bash the promoter

Posted

Still waiting for Jim to inform us who the culprit might be so we may start an investigation. That sound fair to all members?

Still sounds odd to me that he chose a forum that would indeed get a response as opposed to reporting it at the venue to either the promoters or security.

What a ridiculous topic this is, bloke gets nutted, does nothing about it, then complains 2 days later, what does he expect anyone to do?

He should have a) hit the guy back or b) gone immediately to security and got them to throw the guy out

Pointless going on about it now

The comment of Mick's I was referring to is in post 28 but I agree with you both the buck stops with the promotion team and the security.  But as Mick did say bad incidents do happen and obviously questions arw going to be asked afterwards and improvements made to avoid future occurances.  I doubt anyone involved in security can say they have had an incident free life and that they and the team they work with have missed incidents.

But some responsibility has to rest with those who attend to alert any promoter and any security team to incidents they have missed or if you can see any incident about to kick off.

I don't know what those who attend Goldsoul events are like, I can guess and if what is said is true then I have no wish to ever attend any kind of event like it, I have no interest in the retro side of the scene and prefer to attend events that I do attend where it would appear to be a lot less hassle.

I strongly believe it is time for memberships to return, but it has to be universal.  Maybe the cost of getting in as well.  £10 or £12 with a bar for 12 hours is bound to appeal to local idiots who lets face have no interest in the music whether that be Kings Hall or the local night club.

Chalky- Most events have little or no security and are winging it week in week out.

At least we do it right. And back on topic, we are still waiting for the complainant to come forward and give us something to go on or maybe he's enjoying the batting of the ball to and fro and getting off on it......Cynical this Northern business.

On a positive note, i was at the Kings Hall on Saturday, and thought it was a really good event, sorry to hear about the nasties.  It is one of those venues that makes you want to get up and dance, big dance floor, high ceiling, made for northern soul.
