SOULMAN62 Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Over the past 30 years i have been dancing, but never have experiance so much anger on the dance floor. on saturday at kings hall stoke, there was a bit on trouble between me and a what i can only say a handbagger. this trouble started when this guy (yes it was a man) ,was dacing backwards towards me so i put mh hand on his back just to let him know i was there, which he then nutted me i the head but i just ingnored him. to this day from going to the casino and other niters putting your hand on some was the norm so not injure each other. My point i am trying to get across is is norhtern soul to comercial and every tom DICK and harry just jumping on the band wagon. P.S my heads ok he just a dick. 1
macca Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 How does one get nutted and then choose to ignore it or turn the other cheek? Sounds very odd to me, the male handbagger dimension too.

Popular Post hullsoul Posted May 17, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) Jim That's a sign of affection in Hull. Can't believe you allowed it to ride, that's what spare chairs are for. Now he thinks this is the normal way to act on the dancefloor which means he'll do it again.Think you should have reacted,he should be shown this is & never has been a friendly scene. Rhino Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 would love to know what promoter has to say about such matters and if he is doing anything in future to stop this occurrence becoming a trend at the worlds no.1 soul allnighter . fair play for keeping your cool lots of others wouldn't and could of caused a major scene spoiling the night for others. 1

Rhino I'm sorry I disagree,a scene should have been caused & if that spoils peoples night's that's an unfortunate side effect of showing people that nutting someone on a dancefloor won't be tolerated & there will be consequence if you act in that way. As for the venue policing such an incident do you want bouncers criss-crossing the dancefloor all night just because of one idiot? Cheers Martyn 3

Cheers Martyn it doesn't take doormen criss-crossing dancefloor a decent doorman would be able to stand on the balcony and instruct co-worker which idiots were causing issues take them in a control way. worked in clubs soul/rave/pisspots for years and soon weeded out the knob heads without spoiling anyone's night. its public safety and really should be able to spot them at the door as they coming in either turn them away (best option) or monitor them inside. fight on dance floors spill over and involves more people and makes it a big thing but could of been nipped in the bud if police properly. Also if doorstaff deal with it they wont get in to venue again regards rhino Edited May 17, 2015 by rhino 3

Frankie Crocker Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Terribly sad...he can't dance side-to-side yet he's already shuffling back and forth like he owns the place. Did he have L pages on as he seems a total novice. Did you challenge him to a dance-off to make him feel so inadequate he had to throw his weight around? Next time he backs into you, just stamp your heel into his achilles tendon, pretend to look the other way and request the DJ plays a well known song by Kim Tolliver... 1
Guest Byrney Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) This seems to be an issue for the large nostalgia events which seem to open the door to anyone who is prepared to pay. The only comparison I can think of on the Soul scene would be Lifeline where one guy was bothering ladies on the dance floor - Mick H ejected him within minutes. End of the day it's down to door policy - if this is the type of punter you target and allow in this is what you get. Edited May 18, 2015 by Byrney

Popular Post The Phantom Janitor Posted May 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 18, 2015 Probably down to alcohol and new people on the scene who don't understand the etiquette, you can usually tell them by the way they dance (badly!) 6
Popular Post Chalky Posted May 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 18, 2015 Don't they have security at Kings Hall? If management and security at any venue let these f*ckwits in and are not prepared to stop idiots acting the tw*t on the dancefloor as they try to impress some lass then sometimes matters need to be taken into your own hands. Basically you are not only insulting the country's most successful All Nighter but dissing the DJ's who work there. He isn`t dissing the D.J.`s. That response has been used before,to try to embarrass posters,by moving the goalposts, when criticism is made. We could criticise the D.J.`s-but that would be by naming records played multiple times at these events and this has not happened. Time for memberships cards? Not the ones with the Queens head on! 11

Popular Post Chalky Posted May 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 18, 2015 Time for memberships cards? Not the ones with the Queens head on! I agree maybe it is time for memberships. Maybe promorters can get together and do a universal one, share the costs? I doubt it will happen though. Some prefer to take the money and let security deal with potential problems. 5

Popular Post Hooker1951 Posted May 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 18, 2015 Bad incidents like this cannot always be prevented. Its how fast and effective you deal with the situation when it has happened that matters. Then hold the stewards enquiry later. ie,Is Security not tight enough, Do they know about the NorthernSoul crowd, history ect.A 5 minute chat from the promoter to the Door team before the Night starts can have a profound effect on what happens later. always remember a couple of bad apples let though the door can ruin the night for everybody. Stop them on the Door if in doubt take the high ground and don't let them in its just not worth it and it's not fair on the rest of the paying Soulies who are having their Happiness stolen by Morons who shouldn't have been there anyway.Peace N Tranquility Mick L 6

Crezzie Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I used to think I was lucky living in the the north west of England with so many great northern soul venues within reach such as King Georges Hall at Blackburn, The Tower Ball Room at Blackpool and King's Hall at Stoke to mention just a few. Certainly, the first two mentioned have been well and truley sold out to the handbaggers and the third will go that way because the promoters are actively marketing them for that crowd. For the first time since I can remember, I stayed in last weekend because I could not bear the thought of fighting for space on a dancefloor with handbaggers and townies. However, there is still a glimmer of light out there. Check the Yorkshire and north east scene and check out the marketing for the three six allnighter that was on Saturday - it will say ' strictly no handbags'. Nough said. ktf. 3

Why doubt him Macca? The guys only recanting his experience of a night out with sociable and friendly people of the Soul Scene. Jim I'm afraid we meet knobheads in all walks of life (Even had em at Lifeline & Boomerang, infact most venues) and last weekend was your turn, usually their just a nuisance, like that last fly in the room you can't quiet see but keeps buzzing past your lug. As Mr Bird said, b*llox to spoiling other peoples night, he'd spoilt yours obviously, I had mine spoilt when some toe rag nicked my Baracuta Jacket and I'd have willing made a scene had I caught them. Chalky Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 As someone involved with a promotion and if something like this happened then I too would be wondering why it wasn't reported to the promoters or security. As Mick says (and he has more experience than most) security cannot stop every incident but if something is missed and not reported then things cannot be improved for the benefit of all. 2
