4 Million attended..... FOUR?? Can some normal person confirm that number?

Posted

The local History Shop and library are full of old newspaper article and cuttings of the darker side of the Casino, including details of the prosecutions

The head of the local Police claimed they averaged one arrest a week

Journalists should research their stories better

I think Russ is getting mixed up with the number of times he's played the 3 before 8.

These articles are BRILLIANT!

Classic quotes..

"there are more ways to kill a pig than choking it to death!!"

"If I had a bomb I'd have blown it (the Casino) up 2 years ago"

Also a comprehensive list of drink prices!!

Reading the first article, 98% of Casino attendees were on drugs.  The Drug Squad must have been pretty incompetent not to have arrested any of the 3,980,000 drugged up youths over the 8 year period the Casino ran all nighters.

He went to the same school as Russ Winstanley.  They were in the same remedial maths class.

Personally I thought the claims from Gerry Marshall that the Casino had their own Drug Squad was amusing

Would anyone like to step forward who was in that squad

Their is a vast amount of articles and newspaper cuttings archived in Wigan on the Casino History and they make good reading especially as they were all written long before folks were bothered about being PC

I absolutely convinced Russ is right, he is not in anyway trying to recreate history to fit with fluffy Darby and Joan 'ooh I like a bit o norvun' scene he peddles now. Where people have dance lessons and sip sanatogen to a soundtrack of 30 records.

No Siree.

I was arrested on a friday early session in 74, with a pocket full of chalkies, Mike Walker told me I was banned for life, and then went on stage and announced that they had got rid of another pill head with a pocket full of two tone pinks!!! did wonders for my street cred.

The thing is people believe his buffoonery - look at the many on Facebook who have created the past they never had based on his fiction, those slagging the film off for showing drug use as never happening are a prime example.

Some of the bigger boys were a bit naughty and pushed in front of us at the start, and I think it was some of them that wee'd on the toilet floors, but I didn't tell my mum when she came to pick me up.  She would have gone bonkers that I was mixing with people who could do that.

I did see one person taking what I thought at the time were purple coloured love hearts but there was no nice words on them, so perhaps they were knock off's from the market.

It really was good fun there and those nice men in dinner jackets protected us all from anything bad happening.

I nearly forgot, because we came from near London and therefore must have known Neville Staples we didn't have to queue

up ever again.

Then I fecking woke up !!

Given all those people on Facefook who went to Wigan, I'd say 4 million is a conservative estimate.

At his Butlins event last year Mr. Winstanley announced that there were just short of 10,000 present. Amazing this as the capacity for the camp is only 7,000!!!

Sums not his strongest subject then.

I was at the Butlins event in 2014 and don't remember it being as busy as the previous year; so if RW is correct there must have been 20000 at the 2013 Butlins event and 75% of them were in fancy dress (stag and hen parties).

Not sure who the artists are for this years event so don't know whether we will be at Butlins this year.

I go to the Butlins event  to see the artists and have a mini break from work, The best room was the crazy horse and it was pretty good last year, no fancy dress or handbaggers in there.

For a short time in 73 early 74 the guys who i lived with ran a mobile chemist behind the stage on the right hand side LOL

That still happens at some of the bigger events, you can score Welman Vitamins (50+), talc, sanatogen, incontinence pants, reading glasses, herbal Viagra etc.

You forgot RW can't read, so it never happened!!!!!!!!!!! DS were always there I remember being tugged in the lower car park and knew people who never made it to the Casino but did make it to the local Police Station. Seems RW is reinventing history again, just like himself from a Mobile Pro Rock DJ to E.Rodney Jones of the scene.

Spot. :shades:

btw. It was half the fun dodging the DS, unless you got caught.

No, he would have been 20 in 1973 if he is now 62.

So that confirms he's 62 now, and would have been 20 in 1973.  I'll have first heard him play at the Casino when he was 25, which would have seemed old to me at the time, and I'm only 8 years younger than Russ.  The Wikipedia article also states that over 4 million people passed through the Casino, so it must be right.

He was probably born as a fully fledged 10 year old
