Labeat Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 4 Million attended..... FOUR?? Can some normal person confirm that number?
Goldsoul Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 8 years. 416 weeks at an average of 2,000 per week = 832,000. And that's being generous! You do the math! 3
Winsford Soul Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Russ must have speeded the figures up. Steve 3

Popular Post Steve S 60 Posted April 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 15, 2015 4 Million attended..... FOUR?? Can some normal person confirm that number? I think Russ is getting mixed up with the number of times he's played the 3 before 8. 1 6
Bo Diddley Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 The local History Shop and library are full of old newspaper article and cuttings of the darker side of the Casino, including details of the prosecutions The head of the local Police claimed they averaged one arrest a week Journalists should research their stories better These articles are BRILLIANT! Classic quotes.. "there are more ways to kill a pig than choking it to death!!" "If I had a bomb I'd have blown it (the Casino) up 2 years ago" Also a comprehensive list of drink prices!! 2

The Drug Squad must have been pretty incompetent not to have arrested any of the 3,980,000 drugged up youths over the 8 year period the Casino ran all nighters. Steve S 60 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 That was an estimate from DC "Swallow" He went to the same school as Russ Winstanley. They were in the same remedial maths class. 1
dedji1955 Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 Personally I thought the claims from Gerry Marshall that the Casino had their own Drug Squad was amusing Would anyone like to step forward who was in that squad Their is a vast amount of articles and newspaper cuttings archived in Wigan on the Casino History and they make good reading especially as they were all written long before folks were bothered about being PC
Guest Byrney Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I absolutely convinced Russ is right, he is not in anyway trying to recreate history to fit with fluffy Darby and Joan 'ooh I like a bit o norvun' scene he peddles now. Where people have dance lessons and sip sanatogen to a soundtrack of 30 records. No Siree.
Popular Post Paul R Posted April 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) I was arrested on a friday early session in 74, with a pocket full of chalkies, Mike Walker told me I was banned for life, and then went on stage and announced that they had got rid of another pill head with a pocket full of two tone pinks!!! did wonders for my street cred. Steve Foran Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Yes Fred I know MANY who got arrested. I know a fair few who got done in court as well. Some others led a charmed life as well. Ah well. 3
Steve Foran Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Could do with Russ reminding us of how his Uncle found Frank Wilson and sent to him to be played??? FFS! 2
Guest Byrney Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 The thing is people believe his buffoonery - look at the many on Facebook who have created the past they never had based on his fiction, those slagging the film off for showing drug use as never happening are a prime example.
Popular Post Vynilhound Posted April 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 15, 2015 Some of the bigger boys were a bit naughty and pushed in front of us at the start, and I think it was some of them that wee'd on the toilet floors, but I didn't tell my mum when she came to pick me up. She would have gone bonkers that I was mixing with people who could do that. I did see one person taking what I thought at the time were purple coloured love hearts but there was no nice words on them, so perhaps they were knock off's from the market. It really was good fun there and those nice men in dinner jackets protected us all from anything bad happening. I nearly forgot, because we came from near London and therefore must have known Neville Staples we didn't have to queue up ever again. Then I fecking woke up !! 8
Popular Post Hooker1951 Posted April 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 15, 2015 Russ could have done with some of those drugs. Because he's still not got out of first gear. ML 5
Rob Wigley Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 No one would have been prosecuted as all the great dancers were, in his own words, on Lucozade !!!
Popular Post Zed1 Posted April 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 15, 2015 In a local magazine he claims over 4 million people attended the Casino Nighters Given all those people on Facefook who went to Wigan, I'd say 4 million is a conservative estimate. 1 9
Guest s0ul45 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 At his Butlins event last year Mr. Winstanley announced that there were just short of 10,000 present. Amazing this as the capacity for the camp is only 7,000!!!

Amazing this as the capacity for the camp is only 7,000!!! Sums not his strongest subject then. I was at the Butlins event in 2014 and don't remember it being as busy as the previous year; so if RW is correct there must have been 20000 at the 2013 Butlins event and 75% of them were in fancy dress (stag and hen parties). Not sure who the artists are for this years event so don't know whether we will be at Butlins this year.

Mellorful Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 You've just described hades to me. I go to the Butlins event to see the artists and have a mini break from work, The best room was the crazy horse and it was pretty good last year, no fancy dress or handbaggers in there. 1
Md Records Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I think that Kent's 1983 "Floorshakers" album has a very tenuous claim to be a bit of "Casino memorabilia" on page 40? Des
Iancsloft Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 For a short time in 73 early 74 the guys who i lived with ran a mobile chemist behind the stage on the right hand side LOL 3

DS were always there I remember being tugged in the lower car park and knew people who never made it to the Casino but did make it to the local Police Station. Seems RW is reinventing history again, just like himself from a Mobile Pro Rock DJ to E.Rodney Jones of the scene. Spot. btw. It was half the fun dodging the DS, unless you got caught. Stevie T Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 in Halifax we had friends that would take orders a day or 2 before we went , "steal to order " as they say !
KevH Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 You've just described hades to me. Got to pull you up on that Byrney. Its a capitol H for Hades. 3
Maxwell Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 He is only 62! Would have put ten year on that, but he is prone to embellish the truth.
Dayo Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hmmm... If Russ is 62 and I was 15 when Wigan started, that made him 22 in '73. He looked older I must say.....

Mike Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 by all means discuss peoples public words but lets avoid going down the road of the more personal type comments thanks 2

Guest jackwmills Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 We had a drug squad in the wheel. they was confiscated. taken out side and sold.
Hooker1951 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Russ was in charge of the Casino drug squad that's why they never caught anybody Keep on Laughing or you'll go insane ML 3
Mellorful Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 No, he would have been 20 in 1973 if he is now 62. Does this help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Winstanley Born Oct 1952. He is old enough to have senior moments, I have em and he has 10 years on me. Atb Stu
Steve S 60 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Does this help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Winstanley Born Oct 1952. He is old enough to have senior moments, I have em and he has 10 years on me. Atb Stu So that confirms he's 62 now, and would have been 20 in 1973. I'll have first heard him play at the Casino when he was 25, which would have seemed old to me at the time, and I'm only 8 years younger than Russ. The Wikipedia article also states that over 4 million people passed through the Casino, so it must be right.
Phild Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hmmm... If Russ is 62 and I was 15 when Wigan started, that made him 22 in '73. He looked older I must say..... He was probably born as a fully fledged 10 year old 1
