Guest Lucy Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 My 1st niter was Stafford 83. Travelled from Reading with Mr Bicknell and pals from Reading in the back of a van. That feeling walking into T.O.W was amazing, Just felt right in everyway. I think we went to a Leighton Buzzard dayer straight from Stafford, continued pretty much that way for the next 6 years.
Martyn Pitt Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Mine was some Casino in Wigan Spring 1974. First record I remember as I walked out onto the balcony was 'I got to find me somebody - Velvets' , thought I had died and gone to heaven Martyn
Guest claude rains Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) Just being nosey, When was your first nighter,Mine was 1975,Samanthas,We caught the train from Burton station,Me and Brendon Forster,Beddy,Andy Fletcher. I think it was £1.20 to get in. Kind Regards,Kev,Jarvis Ps,Iam at Keele on the 2nd of Sept.. My 1st allnighter was quite late, compared to alot of people I know. I was 17 and the Venue was The Twisted Wheel Reunion May 1986, at The Placemate 7. I met a couple on holiday in malta. They were Mike & Julie Phoenix, we initially met in a bar. Got into a conversation about scooters, then got on to music. They mentioned Northern Soul, which I knew about from soul nights at the hadleigh suite in southend, frank and paul use to run. I hadn't been to a nighter, so they invited me up for a weekend. Got a coach from victoria, met Mike at manchester coach station, then took me back to salford where they lived. We both went out around manchester for the evening and had a few drinks. On the saturday myself and mike attended the Mersey Lights Alldayer, which was a bit of a culture shock from do's in southend. I knew hardly any of the records and the dancers were better than any of the friends knocked about with. I remember feeling so exicited and on such a high. At about 11 PM Julie picked us up, went back to theirs and got changed. I remember looking out of the window of Julies little reliant robin, bombing down the lamp lit manchester streets. We arrived at the whitworth street where we waited in line to pay. I remember that night not for the music alone, but it was a right of passage into another chapter of my life. It's a feeling that I never recaptured, though occansionally came close to in my heady early nighter years of the mid 80's to early 90's. Not long after that night at the Placemate 7, I started attending the 100 club, the rest as they say is history. P.S. The Next Soul Of The Barrio is October 21st The one just gone had a good attendance, music as usual fantastic. You can check out the smiling faces in the gallery, kindly submitted by Karen Heath. Paul R Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 First allnighter was Va Vas, must have been beginning of Sept ish 73 with the Ormskirk crowd, Mandy Edis ,Porky, Steve Marchant Tommy Allinson. First record I heard was Alice Clarke "You Hit Me", but the one that blew me away was Mel Williams. I went back a couple of weeks later, but by now I wasn't old enough! I was 15. Waited then & started going to Wigan In November 73. Don't get out much nowadays, but just had a great weekend in The Isle Of Wight Crown Hotel in the company of Mischief, John Buck, Mick Lloyd & anyone I've missed. Also met Soulie64(I think) & had a good drunken verbal . Thanks for the memories Paul

Pudsoul Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Hinckley Leisure Centre, 4 April 1982 if I remember, I was 16 but looked 12, no idea how they let me in? Then Clifton Hall the following Friday, and lots more after that. Interesting that there are only a handful of people on this thread who started in the early 80s. The scene was on the wain then. Having just missed Wigan all anyone spoke about at the time was the end of the scene, and compared every new venue to the Casino, which is probably why I got into 60s newies and Stafford cause they (the music and the people) didn't try to compare. Happy days.
good angel Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 Hi yer Pud, You have to remember we started in the 70s by the time the 80s was here, we had young familys . Regards,Kev Jarvis

Started at wigan in 79 then carried on through the 80's - Hinckley Leisure centre went regular great venue Must admit though people said it wained in the 80's I never saw much sign - cleethorpes w/g - Bradford Queens hall etc always lot's to go to. Always have fond memories of Wigan - but take each venue for what it is and never compare it is what it is at that time Karen Edited August 31, 2006 by sanquine

Guest Jimmy Scriv Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Up the Junction - Crewe was my first All Nighter early 70's. Live on stage was Donnie Elbert and Gene Latter. My memory might be a little hazy but I'm sure there was a chill out room there showing cartoons provided by a projector on the wall.
