Geoff Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 On Saturday night at the Box, Crewe a record was played by Butch just before the end of his first set. Titled Like A Rolling Stone, who is the singer? It's not the Bob Dylan song. Butch said that 30 years ago you could buy it for 50p. I'm sure I've read something on here about this record but I can't remember when.
Steve G Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) He is on here so why not ask him? Edited March 16, 2015 by Steve G

Geoff Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks to everyone who replied. It is Milton Wright, just listened to it on YouTube. It may have been 50p years ago but I bet it's out of my reach nowadays, I'll check the Manship guide later.

It's currently well in demand - the clue is in the title of the thread Geoff. I know some north west guys were fighting over a copy recently and got themselves into a bit of a hot auction over it.
Guest johnny hart Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Its" Like a Rolling River " Milton Wright on Satiron[b/side of "belong"] ,mistitled as stone ,now "like a Rolling STONE" is the b/side to Earl wrights "Thumb a Ride"!

Raising in demand over the last few years, not just recently.
Ian Dewhirst Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It's a helluva lot better than the other side which is one of the worst vocals I've ever heard! Ian D

Geoff Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Sadly I couldn't go but was the event well attended ( gutted ) ?? There was a reasonable number in but not as many as I'd expected. But the Burnley allnighter was on as well that night and I'm sure that many who went there would have gone to Crewe otherwise. I only heard about it via a friend who lives in Cheshire. It was a great night, still suffering now with odd pains in my legs and back. I wrote a review of it which I posted in the Events section.
Geoff Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks to all who have answered and commented. I know that when you ask about a record on Soul Source you always get an answer and additional information. 2
Slim Jim Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Hey thanks for this post , had this for ages and never played the b side !!!! Have to agree its better than the A Side though I always preferred The Gallop anyway . "My conversation's oh so trite I say the same thing's every night " great line though could have been Dylan

"I Belong To You" always felt like a tailor-made to me. "Like A Rolling Stone" is pretty great though. Wish I'd known it when the cheapies were available......... Ian D

Ian D You were off in LA doing "disco duck" stuff by then Ian…..remember I bought some records from you when you sold up…..now they were cheap! Just wish I had access to the sounds in 1974 when they were even cheaper 3

purist Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 does anyone know if there's to be a repeat of this Butch @ Box special? Sadly I was too poorly, or else I would have been there

Reg Scott Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Offer Mons Dobson a bribe of fine real ales Chalky and I'm sure he'd oblige This tune in the manner of it's release, rather than the tune itself, is a very similar thing that happened with the Rotations (Rotations - We Want Freedom - Emandolyn) another tune that deserves to be heard more imhumbleo 2
Popular Post Gilly Posted March 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 20, 2015 The song still sounds utterly brilliant, its Betty Wrights brother too 6
Tony Smith Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 The inst . to " Like a rolling stone " is on the flip side of " The Gallop " ... And bizarrely the plug side. 1

Dave Pinch Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 (edited) Was the Milton Wright a legit press ?...my assumption being that it was found on tape & a limited press done, but were they kosher ?. Best Russ done by john anderson with ollies blessing...john got the master tape from ollie after meetng up with him in the usa..so kosher...but custom made if you know what i mean Edited April 11, 2015 by dave pinch
Guest Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) Just seen on a list Northernsoul45's, Milton Wright "Like A Rolling Stone" on Satiron for £500! This is really silly for a record that is not a real USA release record! It could be on any reissue/special product label and be just as kosher! It was always in the bootleg/pressings/re-issue sales boxes years ago! Edited April 12, 2015 by Guest
Simon T Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) I'm sure he contacted Mike a few years ago Edited April 12, 2015 by simon t
JOE TORQUAY Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 now it's been talked about on here i expect it will get re-pressed and be on ebay before long.
