Mighty Marvelows- I'm so confused. Mia Morrell- I have a mind of my own. Eddie Regan- Playing hide and seek. (semi-obscure now?) Sapphires- Slow fizz. Sapphires- Gonna be a big thing. A good introduction to the A.B.C. catalouge is the A.B.C. LP "Out on the streets again" - Various artists, released in 1977 (I think??) and not a bad tune on it. Martin

Mace Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I've got a nice little ditty by Rosco Gordon on A.B.C. (dj copy) 10351 from October 4th 1962 called "As you walk away". Martin Is this the one with a really dodgy break that sounds like he's playing a comb and paper? Sounds pretty good until that point.... I know people who bought it after a brief listen to first minute or so, but were gutted when they got home and played the whole tune...
Mace Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Yeah Mace, infact bought it on the strength of that side, it was a nice surprise to find "Help The Poor". I actually sold a spare copy last month, for the 'Help the poor' side.

Guest Darks Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 b side of Lamont Dozier ' Just trying to hold onto my woman', cant remember its name but after a talking intro is excellent up tempo shuffler. "We don't want nobody to come between us" is the Lamont Dozier track. One of the all time great records. Talking of Lamont Dozier how about Chuck Jackson's version of "Take of your make up". Great version. With regard to the Bobby Bland "dog" record. This was a big play back in the early 90s at the Post Office Club in Manchester. Fantasic record and one I keep forgetting to buy. However, I do have an instrumental version by Rythythm Heritage also on ABC. It is the B-side to "Theme from S.W.A.T". My plan is to do an extended mix as soon as I get the Bobby Bland! Regards Alan
Guest martinsbox Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Is this the one with a really dodgy break that sounds like he's playing a comb and paper? Yep! That's the one. Most artists would use a sax or guitar for a long break like that, but no, he uses a comb and paper . . . perhaps the group were on strike? Martin

Mace Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Can't believe it not selling for £25. The last one I saw went for £60!! Perhaps I'm selling it tooo cheap? Martin £25 - £30 is it's price IMO mate. Had loads a few years back, Pete Smith lists it quite often, tho can't remeber how much he prices it at.
