Guest noss Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I have written about this one before, but one of the best finds for me was around ten or 15 years ago at a car boot fair that used to be held in the multi storey car park in Peckham. There was a small boxes of uk 45s there. From this I picked up Jimmy Radcliffe 'Long After...' on Stateside and Timi Yuro It Will Never...' on Liberty. I left a copy of 'Hurt' in the box. 50p each.
Jnixon Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Supposedly 25 copies of Clean Up Man by Jimmy Bo Horne but with 2 copies of I Cant Speak in it - all at 3 Euro each. I cant recall the shop it came from.....
Popular Post Dave Moore Posted March 5, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 5, 2015 Wandering around a US flea market with the wife in the early '80s, we stopped at a pet stall selling live animals. In the corner, 2 boxes of 45s. Opened 'em up to find 25 x 'Pain Stain' (Patti Austin), demos in each one! Bought them ($5.00 for each box) and asked the lady stall holder how she came by them. She'd taken them in trade for 5 live mice for a guys pet snake! Sold the 45s at Burnley Miners for a pint each! Happy days! Regards, Dave PS. For every good find..... there were dozens of wasted journeys though! 5
baudrillard Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 On a trip to Philly to visit my brother in the late 80s went to New York for the day and stumbled into a vinyl shop. Was disappointed to see that they had no 45s only LPs, but decided to have a quick look anyway, hoping to find some LP only items. The only thing I came across was a plain white sleeve with Thelma Houston - Ride to The Rainbow written on it. The price was $1. Decided I'd buy it for the Saturday Night, Sunday Morning track even though it had no cover. Pulled the disc out to check it and realised instantly it was the wrong record as it was on the Mercury label. Closer look - Alfie Davison - Serious Business 12". Happy days. Swapped it a few years later with Manship for the Arcades on Triad. Still not sure if that was a good deal...
KevH Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 on Holiday 78/79,in Dawlish Warren found a Gloria Jones LP in a second hand shop ,"Come go with me",about a quid.Sold it on but got another..............
Paul R Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 When I was in Florida with the Navy in 78, I got a load of LPs from the Local woolies. 3 for 2 dollars. Detroit Sound(Jumping At The Go Go), Bobby Bland Greatest hits, a couple of Impressions, Debbie Taylor No Deposit No Return, and Facts Of Life with good version of 100 Pounds Of Pain. Paul 1
Davenpete Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Remember a little second hand record shop round the corner from Sid Scarborough's in Hull opened up briefly early in 86 - they had six mint white demos of 'Bricks, Broken Bottles and Sticks' at £1.50 each - I detested it, so despite it already being popular and rapidly rising in value, I chose not to buy any (even to sell - didn't want to encourage people's interest in this drivel). Popular Post Pete S Posted March 10, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 10, 2015 This literally happened an hour and a half ago You know what, I was so bored, sat here doing nothing on my birthday, I thought I'd go have a drive over to Perton to the two charity shops and cheap freezer shop, anyway there was nothing there so I decided to get my car washed, except the car wash wasn't working (keep reading, there is a point to all this) then I remembered there was one of those hand car washes on the Bridgnorth Road at the garden centre, so off I went there. left the car to be cleaned, wondered around the few little shops they have there, there's one selling 'retro', so I went in and he had a handful of records, incredibly amongst Abba and the Beatles there was an Ethiopians on Doctor Bird, a Skatalites on Ska Beat and a Prince Buster on Blue beat. I said to the young lad serving, bloody hell mate, nice birthday present for me, and he says...wait for it...I've got a few more of those if you want to have a look...I ended up with about 50 reggae and ska singles, plus a red and white Island copy of Jackie Edwards I Feel So Bad LOL gave him £200 for the lot which I thought was far seeing as he only paid £20 for them...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! 9
KevH Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 So let's clear this up Pete.Is it,or is it not, your birthday.?

Davebanks Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Wandering thru our local antique market one day last year, saw a box of about 30 45's. Like many of us I couldnt resist a look and amongst all the 80's picture sleeves was a black UK Chess cover. Sure to be the Dells "rainbow" I thought...........but no ......... a stone mint Gospel classics more of your love ..wow and only 50p. Also on the same stall amongst the many Mantovani LPs was a mint copy of the Disco Strings of cloud 9 LP. An album from my youth club days, not seen a copy for 40 years. Dave Banks
Eddie Hubbard Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 About 10 - 15 years ago went to a school car boot and noticed a 7 inch brown bag on the floor under a stall .Picked it up and on opening , 2 records in there : Liberty Belles " Shing a ling time " on Shout ,and The Earls " It's been a long time coming " on ABC .Not the rarest records ever , but a nice find all the same, about 10p each .Also , in the late 80's ,went to an antique shop looking for a Victorian fire place .In the corner were some records ,including Barbara Lewis - Don't forget about me UK Atlantic yellow demo ,Four Tops - Don't bring back memories ,and a King Floyd test pressing album .

Mr Smithy Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Well done Pete, not often you get a real treat out of the blue on your birthday. Put a grin on your face for the day I'll be bound.
Ronnie Mccarthy Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Bobby Wilburn - I'm a Dreamer - 40p in a Leeds charity shop - some time around 2005 Thats just reminded me, I bought this record in cornwall about 10 years ago at a car boot for £3 then 4 days later found the same record in a charity shop in Bournemouth for 25p. 1
Autumnstoned Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I volunteer for Age UK and was sorting the vinyl donations on Friday when I found 2 decent 45's - Geno Washington - I've Been Hurt By Love and Pink Floyd's - Arnold Layne. Priced the Geno Washington at £14.99 and advertised it on the local NS Facebook page. A wise soul had been in today and bought it. Wouldn't mind the Pink Floyd 45 myself but it's too pricey for me! Makes a change from endless Jim Reeves albums
Chalky Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Same year found in the local junk shop a copy of P.P. Arnold "Everything Is Gonna Be Alright" on Immediate for 10p. I was robbed then at 50p....or was it 75p? Issue as well.
