Soulandy Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 OK, I know the Salvadores had the N/S hit, but is/was there an unissued motown artist with a version/ Sidney Barnes?? i have an MP3 and there is this on youtube Cheers
Popular Post Quinvy Posted February 27, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2015 Oh my God that is bloody bad. One of Mr Levines finest moments I would say. 7
Popular Post Robbk Posted February 28, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 28, 2015 That is NOT a '60s Motown recording. It is NOT as old as even the early 1970s. It sounds like an '80s or '90s recording (reminiscent of Ian Levine's recordings, but more simple, and not very good quality. 4
Westender Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 There might be a very good reason why it wasnt released........ No way a 60's or even 70's recording i would say.
Drewtg Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 As an old friend used to say "If that's Motown, my dick's a kipper!" 1
Hitsville Chalky Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) I think its credited to the Carstairs ..when they were over i belive Ian done it Edited February 28, 2015 by Hitsville Chalky
Steve G Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) Unknown Motown - the internet strikes again with mis-information. Agree a tailor made remake and it was credited to The Carstairs. What's more embarrassing though is seeing that this was a local soul night round the Beds area. One of the DJs needs a slap. Edited February 28, 2015 by Steve G 1
Popular Post Tony A Posted February 28, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 28, 2015 Love the title on the youtube clip, "SICK BY ME" 4
Guest Matt Male Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) The vocal isn't good. Edited February 28, 2015 by Matt Male
KevH Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 With all the records that could be played ...... 1
Chalky Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) Ae there any proper instruments on it, it doesn't even sound like an old recording. Have they got ears those who post this crap, those who make the motown comments I mean. Edited February 28, 2015 by chalky
Illusive Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) God forbid that this example was ever played out anywhere. Sounds like a poor karaoke performance. Now there's a novel idea - karaoke soul nights. !!!!!! Bet they'd be queuing up at the Tower Ballroom. Edited February 28, 2015 by illusive 1
Soulandy Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 Thanks for the replies :-) Not my clip and no, not the greatest but I was just interested to know if there was another version. I'm sure I have a mp3 somewhere, but not the youtube one. Cheers
Mal C Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Can we award "TOPIC ANSWERED" to RobbK Post 3 pls... I dont think there is anything else to say about it, is there?
Kev Cane Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) Once you've heard the Salvadors, then nothing else will ever do , incredible record IMHO (Salvadors that is) Kev Edited March 1, 2015 by kev cane 1

Not one of my old Kempston Rovers or Bedford Ath soul nites Steve I might add !!!! Couple of recogniseable Bedford soulies in the video alright but these guys do travel around. I think its somewhere in Peterborough...... And yes why would anyone make such a shi*e version of the Salvadores classic 1
Zoomsoulblue Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Bang on Hammie looks like the right track with the bar on the left hand side, guess ask Smudge or Martin Coulderbank

davidwapples Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) It's the parkway club in peterborough , it was uploaded by wpaulvandyk who used to be on here and is from peterborough Edited March 1, 2015 by davidwapples
John A Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Bang on Hammie looks like the right track with the bar on the left hand side, guess ask Smudge or Martin Coulderbank I think you could be right. I think there's a clue on that big yellow banner draped in front of the decks saying "right track" I wouldn't actually know though. Considering the place is only 20 odd miles from me house. I've never been but I'm gonna now with these quality tunes played.
Soulandy Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 There`s definitely no pucker alternate version! Fair enough. Cheers
Russoul1 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 how embarrassing, just watched clip making sure I wasn't on there...lol quite an old clip but how much talc does one need to dance even looks like its snowing talc at one point regards the tune utter shite..... 1
Ficklefingers Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) Right, tin hat on and securely in place.. Personally I think its a refreshing alternate to The Salvador's original!! AND.. It always pulled the punters on to the floor whenever I used to play it out - which was on a regular basis. It is also my understanding that it is indeed credited to The Carstairs and was supposedly cut in the early 90's when (as stated on here) they were over here making a few appearances. My final comment being the old adage of 'It would be a boring Scene if.. etc. Edited March 1, 2015 by FickleFingers
Illusive Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) "Personally I think its a refreshing alternate to The Salvadores original!! " No no no no no . This would be less painful than listening to that dreadful voice. Edited March 1, 2015 by illusive 1
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) Sidney Barnes would have made it a better record. I remember he sang Heart Trouble to a few of us at The Dome. Edited March 1, 2015 by Prophonics 2029 1
Dave Rimmer Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 When this was released I did a rather critical review of it. My point was though, that with Ian Levine's excellent pedigree as a producer with Take That etc, why didn't he record the Carstairs on that type of record ! At least with the right promotion they would have stood a chance of making the charts, and making some money. I also questioned who was actually going to buy the single that was recorded ! Ian at some point read my review and rang me up on a Sunday afternoon and proceeded to miss my point about possibly recording something contemporary, and having a chance of a hit, and harangued me for about three hours for having the termerity to criticise the recording. Happy days 3

Please don't say you used to play this? Honestly it's a shocking remake, and how you could even give it credibility is beyond me. It certainly is NOT making the scene interesting at all. Just another in a now long list of embarrassing moments. 4
Guest smudgesmith Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Bang on Hammie looks like the right track with the bar on the left hand side, guess ask Smudge or Martin Coulderbank Interesting Keith,it's defo a crap tune and has never played at the Right Track, someone has mixed the photo,s with the tune
Soul Shaw Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I think its credited to the Carstairs ..when they were over i belive Ian done it. it was the carstairs ,they performed stick by me baby at Blackpool Mecca mid 90s I seem to remember Lorraine chandler was on the bill as well , if you had been there, you would thought the same as me , that the way they sung stick by me baby was awesome , I believe that the version you are listening to , is a live version edited by Ian Levine, which is never ever gonna sound as good as a proper studio cut
Hammie Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Interesting Keith,it's defo a crap tune and has never played at the Right Track, someone has mixed the photo,s with the tune I did think that Smudger myself, the picture footage is a series of 'stills' and not footage with live sound on the night at the venue. I think the 'crap version' has just been coincidentally added. If I was ever at a soul night and someone play this type of thing promoter and Dj would'nt get off lightly from me 2
Dave Pinch Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Bet it sounds great over a big system..not hard that tho
davidwapples Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Interesting Keith,it's defo a crap tune and has never played at the Right Track, someone has mixed the photo,s with the tune It's matt wallace who goes with his dad to the right track who uploaded it
Rick Scott Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 If someone gave this to me to play (as i certainly would not pay for one) i would have to cover it up.....................................................................................................With a ton of hardcore and quick set concrete, yea i think that would do it
