Guest UPTITE U250A Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 past obscurities re-surfacing interest.... Jimmy Burns vs Brand New Faces ? how many known copies of each? whats their value now? (JB was only a £40 record tops) Surely the BNF must be up there with the h0LEY-gRAILYS? Is it not, far, far rarer than say,Don Gardner? Just wondering why the one on ebay is so low...
Guest UPTITE U250A Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 just got a message,so this is what I am on about...

Popular Post Mal C Posted February 22, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 22, 2015 Brand New faces Might be rare and all that, but i think its a pretty dreadful record... Jimmy Burns is great and all that, I still listen to it on i-tunes, but its allot of money for a track thats a pretty great Northern dancer, though I could think of better things to spend my money on,,, its not Gene Toones is it... If you have a wallet as wide as the DuSable bridge, then of course 'you must have it...' Mal 6
Pete S Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 They were both played at the same time but I can only ever remember Alan Rhodes playing Brand New Faces. 2
NEV Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Think I'd go Jimmy burns or even a bobby James and chuck this one ,it sounds very poor in comparison but no doubt works on a big talc filled floor 1
Godzilla Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 They were both played at the same time but I can only ever remember Alan Rhodes playing Brand New Faces. Someone played it at Wakefield Unity - Ginger maybe?
Pete S Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Someone played it at Wakefield Unity - Ginger maybe? I never went anywhere else I'm afraid
Quinvy Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I was led to believe Bobby James was the original release. I like it the best. Brand New Faces is rarity over quality in my personal opinion. Just a load of kids shouting over the backing track. Has to be very rare though. 1
Labeat Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 You mean to say they play Karaoke music on the Soul scene, i find attempts of this sort Embarrassing!

Just a load of kids shouting over the backing track. Has to be very rare though. Could well be but to my memory, it was discovered well after Jimmy Burns. Reminds me of Eddie Parker's record in a way, both were relatively minor Wigan records which had some plays but never went absolutely huge, they just grew and grew...
Raresoul45s Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Bobby James wrote the track, his name is Robbie Newsome from memory, and he's still putting new stuff out today. Jimmy Burns a min £4k tune and Bobby James half that, these are prices I've achieved albeit 4 or 5 years back Both great tunes and way in front of BNF. Darren
Pete S Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Anyone remember on eBay a few years back when the producers of these records were selling copies of Bobby James and others and loads of acetates, in fact I think I bought one..
Agentsmith Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Think I'd go Jimmy burns or even a bobby James and chuck this one ,it sounds very poor in comparison but no doubt works on a big talc filled floor no need to swear nev ( talc.... ) big filled dance floor will do please!! 1

Darren those were cracking prices I was offered the yellow KAROL thing for the awsome price of £5 but turned it down because I wanted the Jimmy Burns.Someone else got that. They paid £40. any idea as to the rarity of the Brand New Faces tho?how many known copies in GB?and why would Otis Brown use that same backing track?

Pete S Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 please expand I am very interested, was not aware...live a sheltered life... I wish I could but I can barely remember it myself, there were stock copies and acetates of nearly all the releases on a few labels though, am thinking maybe 8 years back..
Paul Shirley Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I wish I could but I can barely remember it myself, there were stock copies and acetates of nearly all the releases on a few labels though, am thinking maybe 8 years back.. yes i bought a bobby james and i know another lad who bought one as well was about 6 years back but not sure myself you could be right with 8 years , i thought the bnf is terrible record rare or not i wouldn't buy it
Samplat Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Anyone remember on eBay a few years back when the producers of these records were selling copies of Bobby James and others and loads of acetates, in fact I think I bought one..The guy who sold the bobby james had four or five copies ranging from vg to ex. He also had a couple of flash mckinleys + the flash McKinley acetate with the unissued track which I think was auctioned through JM two or three years ago. If I remember correctly about six months after selling the Bobby James he basically sold up and said he had to get himself and his family out of Chicago quickly. I do believe he did get them all from somebody at the studios 1
Tony Smith Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 (edited) I don't think Brand New Faces is particularly rare it used to be around a lot at £8 if you could find someone willing to part with the money Jimmy Burns and Bobby James for me every time. in that order. Same backing track to claim back tax on studio time.Been mentioned on here before.
John Benson Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I was thinking Arthur Fenn used to play the Brand New Faces? Late 70's / early 80's I'm thinking it was Cleethorpes Winter Gardens - Sunday Afternoons? 2
Dave Pinch Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 ronnie pedley used to play brand new faces.... it used to crop up...... in my bottom 10 of all time crap records,,jimmy and bobby much much better 1
Labeat Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 ronnie pedley used to play brand new faces.... it used to crop up...... in my bottom 10 of all time crap records,,jimmy and bobby much much better Would Stanky be in your bottom 10 Dave? 2
John Benson Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Can't say as I was all that struck on it either....
Arthur Fenn Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 They were both played at the same time but I can only ever remember Alan Rhodes playing Brand New Faces. He borrowed mine along with a few other bits. Got it off Sam for £50, it was a spare he got from Ian Levine's collection. 1

Guest Aaron Darcy Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Think I'd go Jimmy burns or even a bobby James and chuck this one ,it sounds very poor in comparison but no doubt works on a big talc filled floor Nev spot on , Jimmy Burns number( 1) (2) Bobby James---Brand New Faces very messy sound nowhere near as good as JB or BJ

Popular Post Liamgp Posted February 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 23, 2015 Quite surprising how much vitriol is being spewed out over Brand New Faces. Great up-and-at-'em piece of girl group soul. Yes, it's messy and chaotic. What do people expect from a Northern tune - a Bach cello concerto? 6
Popular Post Jumpinjoan Posted February 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 23, 2015 I like BNF. Messy and quirky but it works 6
Sunnysoul Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I like BNF. Messy and quirky but it works I'm with you - it has that raucous feel like the Show Stoppers "Ain't Nothing But A House Party".
Mark B Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I know two owners possibly 3 of brand new faces
Labeat Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 BNF would be a good tune if they did away with the school kid singers, ya' can't beat a good instrumental
Quinvy Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I know two owners possibly 3 of brand new faces Name and shame 'em Mark. 2
Steve Foran Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Lester Wardle had one about 17 years back. He said Shifty was also playing it??
Mark B Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Name and shame 'em Mark. That would be most unfair Phil just let them wallow in their misery 2

(I first heard it on tape mid 80Ts)never saw a copy anywhere and no one even mentioned its existance...and this was in the period when The Cairos was a £1 record....
Pete S Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Well I'm with Mr Uptite, I love the Brand New Faces record and I play it regularly here at home - off an Outtasite reissue of course 1
