bit of background first.

at Christmas we was asked to do a Motown & Sixties Soul Night, so i had to pick up afew of the more well known tunes.so i Picked this up at the record fair and was asked by a mate(Albert"Jock" Herron) "what you buying that for?", so I told him.

"Well play the other side"

So I did, and thought I like this, how've I missed it?

Now, whenI play it out, It

1) Fills the floor

2) Has folk running up asking what it is.

Not bad for four quids

Oh, its The Tams--Take Away--b side to Hey Girl Don't Bother Me.

So what's your best cheap 'un.?

Let's say under a tenner.

Are we talking about what you can generally get for under a tenner or ones that we have actually got for under a tenner ? If you get what i mean :D

If it's what you actually got for under a tenner, it's got to be "Epitome Of Sound", but we are talking 1976/77.

For things under a tenner now, loads , but most of the stuff by the "Five Stairsteps" springs to mind, especially "Change Of Pace" love that one

P.s.

Going back to the "Tams" tune, i remember mentioning that once when i first came on here, really is a cracker

Actually, Matt, it was just the B side again - I've got a Duke demo with the "(XXX)" designation on the "Piece Of Gold" side. POG, incidentally, was one of Bobby's few Duke 45s not to make the Billboard Soul Charts during the 60s...

TONE

PS - still a great double header, though...

Hi Matt I believe I was the first to play it over here? Tim Brown hated it and yet sold a copy for £1500 ? Ian Cunliffe swopped about a tons worth of records to get it ,to sell on to Ginger..........when it got put out on 7s too popular I sold it........made a small profit  ATB Stevie

Yeh CBS is the one i got Ken, think i put a scan up in the previous thread about it, still only cost me £5.50 or something close, book price is only £8.

The Impressions - You've Been Cheating - ABC

Mine cost me a dollar and you can still get it cheap. Has anyone ever had an empty floor to this record?

Depends on what you class as a £5 tune, what you paid for it then or now coz I remember Pete Crampton getting the Brooks Brothers off of Manship for a fiver  Alot of my collection I paid a fiver for years back (Pennies in some cases) but then they aint worth that now! Shame the prices of good collectables are soo much nowdays.

Ok got these for £4 the other week, Howard Tate - Half a man, Little Milton - I Know What I Want, Clarence Murray - Dont talk like that

Now looking on Manships he rates them at alot more!!! Again its the what you rate as a five pound record yourself isnt it thumbsup.gif

Here's 4 I played at the Attic Club Mansfield last time:

Tams - Take Away ( previously mentioned )

Showstoppers - What Can a Man Do ( b side of houseparty )

Oscar Toney Jnr - Aint That True Love

Isleys - There's No Love Left ( b side this old heart )

All cost me less than a fiver, all great records IMO biggrin.gif
