90T's Nighter Tunes

yes i'm beginning to think the same - sooty sure is a "big hit for himself"

SOOTY, you quote -

I do recall being the only one Nationally to spin many of the tunes I listed during the period designated....up North and down sarf....at the major Nighter venues including my own St Ives and the Maltings.what with him DJ'ing Nationally!!!

firstly, reference this quote - i doubt it, and secondly as Chalky quotes, most had probably dropped them by that time!

WTF - I've been on the scene a few years and NEVER heard ANYONE use such a stupid phrase as being a NATIONAL DJ

and yes Chalky, not one "newie" listed

Sooty, by "bigging yourself up" like this, you sure are leaving yourself open to negative feedback!!!

Things always work a little differently in Sooty's parallel universe ... crazy.gif

No got it from all that Tom Moulton stuff that Chris King had, which was Bretby time. Big tune there and The Ritz

My memory playing up there Dave….Chris King, that's where I got the unissued version of "You and I' and the unissued Patti Jo and Tony Drake from. He had traded them on to Brady in exchange for northern oldies

I've cut the rest of the quote from your post out to save some memory space for the site. I have rarely read such a load of self inflated egoist b/s in my life. Well I have actually, but only from one or two of the "heroes" you tell us we should listen to on "the doc". National DJ - do you make these terms up?

I must be living in a completely different world to you, but your post is SO NOT what it's all about.

Best wishes etc...

well said Stevie G

exactly what i (and probably many others) was thinking, although if i have a few beers tonight, mines would be full of expletives and get me banned from SS.....it might be worth it

in the words of Del Boy...."what a plonker"

Yep, didn't you also get the unissued Sound Experience - Summer girl

No he didn't have that. went through about 150 acetates, mostly released things. I got what was unissued or different mixes to released stuff. Will Hatcher You haven't seen nothing yet with a Tom Moulton booming beat and strings was another one.

Willie and The Handjives had been a big record for Ady, before Sooty started playing it and I definitely heard it played elsewhere too!

I remember hearing it at Blackburn (Guy's Soultown All-nighters before the Nighters run by Mick Lyons).  I picked one up around that time after hearing it, gave it the odd spin up t'north.

Listen - the majority of "northern DJ's" or people who DJ at northern events, have Dj'd all over the place from bloody Lands End to John O Groats, since the start of the scene - HOWEVER, they I have never heard one of them publicly use such a "twatish term" as "National DJ's" - maybe you use that term to impress your pals at work, but I'm afraid it doesnt impress us on here - don't you get it yet???

I can remember hearing this played at Keele, what's the story on this one Dave? I wasn't really into the scene at the time.

I did Keele a few times around the same time as The Ritz. It came from a big pile of acetates Chris King got from Jerry Ross. Many of them were Tom Moulton mixes of things. This one is a Tom Moulton mix and unrelaesed. Spoke to Tom a few years ago and sent him a sound file, he remembered doing it, his memory was that it was recorded down in Philly by a bunch of studio musicians. Was planned to add a vocal to it, but the project got canned.

Now then lads, if my memory serves me right, was it not Kitch and Dean Anderson that first found this on a record hunt in the States during the "new" Tracky day's.... late 80's? Don't rip me to shreds if i'm wrong Chalky, after all, it was

25 years ago :g:

We did find a handfull back then but had already been played (not for long though) could have been Ady but can't remember. Only thing I do remember was the place we found them was a very successful haul indeed!!

The "l'm Not Worried" side of Carol Anderson was played in the 70's.

Rufus Woods another reactived oldie that went down a storm.

Never heard it played by anyone but Saus so I assume he still has it tucked away somewhere safe , I have a really clean copy of it on tape somewhere in it's entirety , always meant to get a disc cut from it but never did out of respect for Saus.

I though it was later as I remember someone playing it at Wilton and they said for first time?

Few 80's tracks in the list but it's how you remember I guess.

There are several on that list that cross over slightly into the decade before or after, but Butch was definitely playing it, early noughties & I thought occasionally very late 9ts, i could be mistaken though....
