Besides which, if I find it for ya I'll let you have it for $900...that means one email can save you $100...gotta be a bargain offer. :wicked:

Get typing...you know it makes sense....

Have you tried "Blues World " yet?Loads of 78s ?ATB Steve

i've had a quick look yeah , will have a better look at some point , BUT more research will need done , like for example if i can get something on 45 i might go for that .

the idea of the 78's from my point of view was and will always be that if something comes up that is playable from whatever era then i will be able to utilise and play it

Don't want any for meself - ain't got owt play 'em on and they can break too easy when shipped...stare at 'em hard enough and the buggers will snap :D

Won't fit in my play box either.....

Did snap up the Jo Ann Henderson for a few dollars off ebay though a few years back (now in Ziggys collection)

So gave you the answer to your question...now expect the info of you Stevie boy..get typing and I'll get searching... :D

Apart from the Elvis stuff....and a couple of others i thought the whole 78 thing was dead...at least thats what the US dealers tell us. I`ve seen places with thousands of mint 78s for sale and nobody even wants to take a look at them....

No wonder - as I said earlier, stare hard enough at 'em and they will snap... :D

The latest UK 78 I've ever seen is from 1961 - the Everly Brothers' "So Sad". By that time only UK Decca was pressing 78s, and they were almost pressing them to order. I was told once, by someone who worked for Decca back then, that things like thie Everlys' 78 would probably have had a pressing run of no more than 100-150 tops.

Given that mains electricity did not arrive in the islands and certain parts of the Highlands (and all of Wales) till the late sixties there would have been a certain amount of demand for 78's for wind up gramaphones.

The oldest one i've got is Roll em Pete on parlophone from the forties. The newest one is Robert Gordon and Red Hot from the seventies.

Unless you've got a Jukebox that plays 78s....

Still plenty of them around.

...Don't really like giving away these sort of trade secrets, but I'm feeling generous this morning:

Sadmanrecords@btinternet.com

Nigel Haslewood has hundreds of good R & B 78s - King, Aladdin, Modern - all the 'usual suspects'. He doesn't do lists at the moment, but if you get in touch with him he'll tell you what record fairs he's going to be doing in the near future. He's based in Leicester, but travels all over the country.

If you do get in touch, by all means tell him that I said 'Hi' - I promise you that he won't charge you double if you mention my name!

TONE :D

Greg Butler in Foxton, Cambs, has long been a specialist of 78s. Sometimes he holds sales at his home - see the following link:

As far as turntables that play 78s go, Richer Sounds currently have a lovely Thorens TD-170 in stock for £199 (and well worth the money IMO). Here's the link to it:

https://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.ph...;pid=THOR-TD170

Word of advice - if buying the Thorens TD 170, it's advisable to buy a separate Audio Technica cartridge from somewhere like Hi-Fi Care, as they still make 78 styli for them.

PS: No, I do NOT want to sell my Jo Ann Henderson 78!
