Popular Post John Benson Posted January 30, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) 20 years ago, way back on the last Friday in January 1995, Sean Hampsey, Kev Briscoe, myself and Andy 'Tats' Taylor started what was to be almost 5 years of monthly Soul nights. Here is the very first 'sampler tape' - in digital format, that was given away on that first night, I hope you'll enjoy it: Welcome to the First of what will be many great SOUL nights at the PITCHES. It’s taken a couple of years in the making but it’s been worth the wait! The format is simple. The very best in SOUL music from across the decades. Crossover and Modern from the 70’s and 80’s, together with best of the new 90’s releases and classics from the 60’s. (You will also hear a few underplayed 60’s and perhaps some you’ve never heard before!) The enclosed tape is representative of the music policy of Soul Solution, and there will be no compromise! The time is right for this type of event and this is the first of it’s type in the Rotherham area. https://www.mixcloud.com/JohnBenson/soul-solution-pitches-tape-1/ Edited January 30, 2015 by John Benson 5

Jaco Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks guys, might I add that this isn't just a copy from the cassette tape, but a recording of all the tracks direct from their original format & 'lovingly remastered' !!! Shinehead Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks guys, might I add that this isn't just a copy from the cassette tape, but a recording of all the tracks direct from their original format & 'lovingly remastered' !!! Its also great to put names to all the tracks now because I never had the inlay card with all the details , knew a few and sussed most out but a few were still elusive . 2
Jaco Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 This is just one of the best podcasts ever put up on here. Absolute class from start to finish. Any more to follow? 2
John Benson Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Thanks, we did 3 tapes in total. At some point in the near future I'm hoping to do the other two. Watch this space! 2
Fuzzj Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 still have 2 tapes , remember these only touched tip of the iceberg of what was played . 2
Rich B Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Just finished listening John, absolutely top drawer! 2
John Everard Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Thank you so much for this. I haven't had the opportunity to listen yet however. We had many, many brilliant nights at Pitches. It's a event and venue this is sadly missed. Time for a Pitches reunion, methinks! 2
Billy Jo Jim Bob Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Bloody hell John has it been 20 years I've got all the Pitches tapes in a box somehwere, I'll have to dig them out. I always regard Pitches as one of the best soul nights I ever attended and it was sad to see it go. Two memories stand out for me, the music was always different and pushed the boundaries, and Hampsey still had hair Andy 2
Guest Soulfulhammer Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Bloody hell, I wish I hadn't given up clubbing by then. Anywhere that plays Love is Fire, Love is Ice, (one of the great underplayed tracks) would be right up my street. The podcast can help me through the rest of this pile of work I have. Then I again I might just put my feet up, I do like days working from home!!!
