Dayo Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Surely there has never been a label design more cool, more evocative, than the original US Motown label design? From the first "import" I ever bought (Tammi Terrell, This Old Heart Of Mine), to the present day, a glimpse of this label make my heart beat just a tad faster. Case closed?

Case closed? link Record labels, for me its reparata and the delrones, (panic). First discovered by my brother on a cambridge record market (71-72). He first picked it up because he was attracted to the label, and you are talking about matellic design on the label in the early 70's was something different then, cut a story short first played at Wigan, the floor come to a stand still, great spinning record! Cheers Billy
jimmy clitheroe Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 i think that the fee labels a funky design, havn't got a scan though
Guest Jamie Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 (edited) i think that the fee labels a funky design, havn't got a scan though link Do you mean the 'across town' shot type label? Pretty cool dem, remind me of the Mercury ones which have a similar shot (Although the FEE is drawn and the Mercury is more Photo-like). FEE had some pretty plain ones also, Blue, Orange and obviously the WD's. My scanner isn't working so I can't put them up!! Sorry Jamie Edited November 8, 2004 by Jamie
pikeys dog Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Coolest labels have got to be those on Faro records with photos of the artists down one side........ WOOF!
Soulie78 Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 (edited) To me one of the coolest label designs is Troy Dodds - El Camino. But I don't have it, so I can't scan it But this one is pretty nice, too. Especially because what's standing on the label you get out of the speakers. Edited November 8, 2004 by soulie78
Craig W Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Not a rare record by any means but so simple in design with plenty of information on it. Would rather have it in my collection from a listening point than The Oxford Knights shite thats causing a lather at the moment.

Cheers Billy link Just talking to my mate on the phone Marky, talking about record labels I mention the above label on panic he said it was mention in the early B.S mag by the late Dave Godin,I'am not to sure if the label justified the record or the record justified the label don't answer that or I will be on your case LOL. Cheers Billy
Mace Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Always loved the Cub Label (black red and white design) Though the simplicity of the red and yellow U.K. Sue label is also a beauty. Mace
Guest Jamie Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) Here's them FEE & Mercury Labels I was on about last night...... Hope these work, first time I've tried them. Edited November 10, 2004 by Jamie
Guest Jamie Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 How do you re-size the photos & do proper thumbnails??? der, I'm so not good at this!!
Tomangoes Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 There maybe too much 'Hype' to some labels. Lets hope they dont go up in 'Smoke'. The Gems issue always stood out. Ed

Hopefully I'll outlive you all and eventually own one
Guest Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I've put this up in a different thread , but i think this is a Star........
Dayo Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Still to be persuaded. Some gorgeous labels there, but in terms of design, IMHO, Motown not bettered. Yet....
MarkWhiteley Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Have to aggree with The Party Time logo being one of the best, but I like this lot too (if you need to see a scan I'm sure benji has them. https://labelscans.anorakrecords.de): Tayster - Love the quirky dancers, although later issues got a bit boring <_< Twinight - 70's design; Nate Evans, etc. SPEAKING OF THIS, HAS ANYONE GOT A SPARE COPY? Palmer - Simple but striking Rampart - Looks good, but have never seen a copy close-up, so if anyone could provide a scan, tht's be great! Earthworld - Think this has got to be the best; totally unreadable, but you just know it's gonna be fab looking at it Grrr
John Siret Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Probably not as good as the Motown design but always loved the SURESHOT label. John.
Guest Awake 502 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Cool labels.. hmm, always been something magical about a red and white Okeh demo. But for pure design, how about Astro ??
Dayo Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Probably not as good as the Motown design but always loved the SURESHOT label. John. link Used to love the Sureshot label a lot - that is til I sat on my copy of Bobby Williams and broke it in half. Now I hate the bloody label! Moonshot is quite cool too.
MarkWhiteley Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 After saying that in my prev post, think Backbeat's my fave..... Picture perfect!
Guest in town Mikey Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 I wish I could scan. But some lucky person gets a free plug for their record on Ebay. https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...4049744636&rd=1 Heart be still indeed

Pete S Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 I think the Flaming Emeralds also came out on other colour (Blue ?) that is a bit ahrder, never seen one myself, great little label, dont supposed anyone has a Beverley & Duane or an ADC 45 on Fee to sell??? Cheers Jock link It did come out on blue, they were both available as new releases at the same time in fact the blue may be 2nd pete
Guest Jamie Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 The Blue is rarer. My mate Mally has got one. Tosser won't swap. Not sure which way round the issues came out, but I do know there are less in numbers on the Blue issue. Then again, I might be wrong as usual!!!LOL Jamie
Guest Jamie Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 another Fee 45 link Not heard that one fella, Any chance of a soundfile?? Ta Jamie

From the first "import" I ever bought (Tammi Terrell, This Old Heart Of Mine), to the present day, a glimpse of this label make my heart beat just a tad faster. I must say i preffer the Volt label, Motown's nice but i don't know.. not that cool i think Othervise, personal faves must be Earth World, Chattahoocee and other really multicoloured, messy labels.. best Leo
Guest LeoLyxxx Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Some messy & colourful labels. link Exactley! You got it.. that way out is a nice one IMO. best Leo
Soulie78 Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Still to be persuaded. Some gorgeous labels there, but in terms of design, IMHO, Motown not bettered. Yet.... link It might not win the game, but vs. Motown I have to put up this one.
Guest micksmith Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 YOU CAN'T BEAT WEST COAST DESIGN'S.
Craig W Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Very similar to Windy C and the song is a good description of me
Dayo Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Craig W - special thanks for that groovy selection. Fab posts from everyone!
MarkWhiteley Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 (edited) Like this one too, and have to aggree with Leo; Chattagoochee's up there with the best! Edited November 10, 2004 by billytheboot

Craig W Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Nobody got an answer on my Wand question???? Jamie link I might be wrong but I think the earlier labels had red lettering and the later ones had black.
