Popular Post Steve G
A confessed sometimes Shredded Wheat bitesize eater (you can get about 50 in a bowl), and I am not offended by the advert at all. Good tune, and I am past caring about folk in baggies these days. A few years ago I might have been going on about clown wear, badges, oldies etc., but not today. It's what the revival northern soul scene does. It's not a scene I am on, so what those folk get up to doesn't bother me. If you get on the upfront side of the scene these things going on with the retro crowd will no longer trouble you. Popular Post Hooker1951
The Soul Scene wether we like it or not is smelting pot of music, styles, progression, nostalgia, which as evolved over the last 50 years. Everyone involved with it be it dj,s Soulies has their own personal reasons for loving this scene, never lose track that a great many still love to party and if that means dressing up in a bit of retro gear that makes them feel good . Why question that. ? I know nobody or I would like to think that nobody wishes to steal people's happiness with some of the comments on here. Let's be careful out there and leave each to their own.to some people words can hurt. Peace ,Love and Tranquility. God Bless Mick Lyons 18 Link to comment Social source share

Popular Post Mark S
Not really that bothered about what people wear thats not the issue to me . Just hate the media and fly by night bandwagon jumpers trivialising something that I have been passionate about for the last forty something years . That's exactly what this advert has done . Its our scene we have shaped it into what it is , dug out obscure music that would have lain unwanted forever, made stars out of artists who nobody had heard of , all this was done without the help of the media . All the media ever do is cock it up .7 We should have nothing to do with them they have not earned the right . You are right in everything you say but everyone is also entitled to an opinion. As long as it isn't personal and vindictive then I see nothing wrong in giving those opinions. And after all this is a forum, debate, argue and pass comment is what happens on them. People who have invested time money and effort into the scene are entitled to an opinion. Just because you or others don't agree with it doesn't make that opinion wrong, doesn't make it right either for that matter, there is no right or wrong. I said earlier people can dress how they like, it doesn't bother me each to their own, some of the clothing in the ad looks smart. But people must be pretty naivé to think an advert can be made and no comment will be passed. Those who made the advert are probably pretty happy with all the talk, both good and bad, shredded wheat has had tons of free publicity. 2 Link to comment Social source share

I would imagine they are privy to what is being said and like I said they must be happy the way it has gone by and large. I agree there has been some nasty comments and they are totally unjustified and uncalled for, Dave nor any of those in the adverts deserved some of the crap directed their way. But the dress, the portrayal of the scene in these media campaigns, the constant impression that everything today is as it was in 1974 to 1977, it does p*ss a large amount of people off because it isn't how they want the scene portrayed nor themselves to those on the outside, but they should behave like adults when giving their opinion. And yes life would be poorer without the scene although I could live without it as I would still have the music and that is what it is ultimately about. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Is it called Irony?..... In recent years many people have been convinced to join the scene by dumbing the music down . Said people then try to convince even more people to join by dumbing it down still further, to the point much of it's become the very thing many of us joined the scene to get away from in the first place. 6 Link to comment Social source share

macca
Let's be honest, if you change Bobby Angelle for Gene Vincent (?) and film a bunch of middle aged extras dressed in James Dean movie garb doing their moves, it's going to attract both praise and flak, isn't it? If you lend yourself to the process, then expect to be commented on, both favourably and negatively. No need to be so bloody precious about it, is there? Guest
Can't agree with this. I love the young blood getting into it. I was young once and love their enthusiasm. My beef is with people wanting fame at any price and making a mockery in the process. Yes, it's only a commercial but how very embarrassing and they don't seem to be able to see that they've been made an object of fun. And some of us actually missed the baggy clown pants era, I got married/raised kids from 74 onwards........I really don`t remember many, if any full circle skirts and baggies, I never even knew what Spencers were until a few years ago. It was smart casual and trousers/jeans/cords that were wide enough to dance comfortably in. Link to comment Social source share
