Guest HappySoulman Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 My first post - so go easy This question may seem a bit open ended, I often wondered what the age ranges might be and whether the younger soulies are spending their hard earned money on expensive vinyl Carl
Mal C Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 From what I can tell Carl, there are all at it!!! Buying vinyl that is...
John Parker Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I was at the Record bar at Wakefield Unity...youngsters buying from the rare boxes...couldnt have been older than 21/22.....both my girls buy vinyl....but they have been brought up wih it.
Ian Parker Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I am, but mainly club classics/motown and the odd 'northern'
Guest Juniorsoul Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I'm 22, I'm always looking for new stuff to buy! I love vinyl, it has so much more character than a CD or MP3, I love putting it on, dropping the needle in, flipping an LP over! With a glass of good single malt, 22 going on 52.
Chris L Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 From what I can tell Carl, there are all at it!!! Buying vinyl that is... Agree, for sure a sellers market right now.
Guest Soultown andy Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 ive sold a few bits to young soulies just lately, one or 2 fairly expensive bits for such young student types. Its either xmas money or the best paper round in england lol.
Mtay9778 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I'm 26. Been brought up listening to Northern Soul so I mainly blame my Dad for this expensive hobby! 3
Mtay9778 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 There is supposedly a vinyl revival happening with sales at their highest in a long time last year. Whilst there is still demand for rare and original vinyl it is however concerning the amount of folk on the likes of Facebook who don't care what the format is and have no appreciation for the records being original and the Northern Soul scene being an original vinyl scene. Suppose it's my fault for being on Facebook.
Garswood Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I'm still buying with a passion and even my son whose nearly 16 has been buying his own stuff for about 6 months or so now. 1
The Phantom Janitor Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Been buying for 35 years, once your hooked it's hard to stop, great to see young ones buying original vinyl! 1
Guest Carl Dixon Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) In that case I may take my two 45's of Spyder Turner/Pree to Prestatyn and and see if anybody is interested. I wonder if FunkyFeet Records will be there again.... Edited January 12, 2015 by Carl Dixon
Popular Post Soulstu Posted January 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 12, 2015 ....then there's people like me - 50, with a few hundred records bought in the late 70s early 80s....followed by the early Kent LPs After getting over the thrill of the first northern compilations on CD (and having a bit more spare cash recently) I have been buying original vinyl for the past year... the thrill has come back big time!... I only wish I'd carried on buying back in the day. I'm not trying to build a cock-waving collection of 'big lads', just a nice bunch of proper northern records that I can pop on to the deck and marvel at how wonderful they sound! 4
martynthejazz Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Not buying so many 45s...But collecting most of the newer Lp releases coming out...most on 180 gram vinyl.....also picked up the Northern soul the film box set...and the rare invictus box sets......not only collecting soul, but also jazz, latin, etc...Gotta get them while we can.........
