Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Belting tune - memories? Seem to recall reading it was played at Wigan / M's - anyone confirm? Presumably the 7" rather than 12"? Great 12" mix though Also on a Dave Thorley Stafford playlist on Chalky's website Cheers, Chris.
El Corol Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Good chance it may have been played at Wigan in the last year or so. It was definately played a lot at Rotheram Clifton Hall but can't remember if it was Searling or another DJ, anyone remember? 2
Rhino Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) very big tune at the central pier morecambe great tune Edited January 9, 2015 by rhino
Popular Post Arthur Fenn Posted January 9, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2015 my old "bright moments" c/up circa 81 ( from Dave Raistrick ) i found the guys in New York & had a pile of 45's & 12's off em, the 45 is the one to have 8-) 4
Arthur Fenn Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Oh & there was a connection to the international gto's as Tarique ? was lead singer on " i love my baby" 2
Mal C Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Wow, I got one of these last year because of the name, my daughters name is Nia.... M 1
Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 my old "bright moments" c/up circa 81 ( from Dave Raistrick ) i found the guys in New York & had a pile of 45's & 12's off em, the 45 is the one to have 8-) Brilliant, thanks Arthur - so presumably you were playing it at Clifton Hall? A Wigan tune at all? As mentioned I seem to recall reading it was played in M's
Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Wow, I got one of these last year because of the name, my daughters name is Nia.... M Did you get the 45 Mal? What did you pay for it? Seems to be rarer than the 12"
Popular Post Arthur Fenn Posted January 9, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2015 No & no, don't think anyone had it at wigan ( can't imagine it getting spun in M's ) & i was sacked from c/h after the 1st night , it was a big track for me for months as a one off at the small modern nights we we playing, after i found copies it then got plays around the country. 5
Glynthornhill Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Arthur was spinning this at the legendary Snaith , Turn Ups all niters , Brum Locarno small room and other fledgling venues around the early 1980 's period. The 12 " become a sought after ' boogie ' tune in recent years - sold my gold label orig 12 " for £100 some years back - the 45 is the one to have like Arthur said .... 3
Arthur Fenn Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 just remembered now, Dave removed the info off the label but while on honeymoon in London in 82 i found it on a 12", this had phone no & address so then was able to track it down, amazing this record thing eh! 3
Cunnie Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Sorry to upset the applecart Guy's but the 12" is far superior. Sounds oh so good played alongside 'You Dazzle Me by Dazzle (Burgess connection). Glyn & Arthur have pretty much hit the nail on the head with the above comments. Thought the Gold & also the Orange 12" were both original copy's though Glyn. PS, My 12" used to belong to Adrian Guite who ran Clifton Hall with Steve Croft & some other bloke so it's precious to me. 2
Mal C Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Mines a 7, and I reciently saw another on ebay... M
Chalky Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Oh & there was a connection to the international gto's as Tarique ? was lead singer on " i love my baby" Tunde Aleem
Sean Hampsey Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I played it regularly at (probably every) Clifton Hall, KGB, Cleethorpes after buying it from Arthur. Would have thought a couple of us had it there. A massive record in South Yorkshire at the time. Sean

I like the 12" too though can see the 7" is the one for niter play What value on a 7"? Several copies of both the red and the gold 12" versions currently on discogs etc for under £100 but no 7" Anyone know why two label colours? Both are NIA 1004 and both apparently originals, though presumably one a first pressing Wonder where I read it had been played at M's?

True Martin - both 12" original copies - would have thought the 45 is around same price no ???
Arthur Fenn Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 all my 7's & 12's were red, only got the one 7" left now tho nothing unusual with 2 or even 3 different colours & almost impossible to say which came first.
Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 True Martin - both 12" original copies - would have thought the 45 is around same price no ??? The only 45 I could find was on here recently as 'offers'. Can't find the one Mal saw on ebay. Seem to be plenty of 12's around but not many 7's
Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 The late Curtis Hairstons version is the best. Hadn't heard this before - do like it but doesn't kick arse for me the same way HF does - anyone else?
ockers Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Played this out on orange 12 at last years soulful dance weekend in st annes in september Its still a great dancer!!!
Ncfc Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 nah its for softies ( sorry Chris ) Got em both anyway Arthur

Arthur Fenn Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 always meant to get a collection of my most hated records made into ashtrays Martyn but this wouldn't be one of em, one for a new thread perhaps? 1

Still Diggin Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Actually remember buying this at clifton hall along with larry houston ' lets spend some time together' which had only just been uncovered from what ever it was and was a big record then. To cut a long story short i lost my little blue ticket to the cloke rooms on the floor, some f***** found it stole my bag and the records. Found both titles a few months later, but not great when you only got £42 pound a week as an apprentice! Andy
Tony Turner Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 So what would a guess at the price of the 7 Inch be?
Sean Hampsey Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Would have thought that Poke, Steve Mannion & Pat Brady were playing it well before you were added to the line up Sean. Wasn't saying (or claiming) anything else was I Martin? Was just stating a fact. Sean
Cunnie Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Wasn't saying (or claiming) anything else was I Martin? Was just stating a fact. Sean So was I
Sean Hampsey Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 So was I Not so sure though Martin. I know the others were at Clifton before me but I doubt they would have played this particular record any sooner, as I think we all got them from the same source (Arthur) around the same time. I certainly remember hammering it at the KGB and Windmill while it was still very hot and then at Clifton, Cleggy, Bradford etc... soon after It's an interesting point though. The truth is (and I'm not sure it can be said nowadays) quite a few of us would be playing many of the same sounds at the same time. Guess that's how they came to be so massive! And even more interesting to see how there seems to be a 'revived' interest in records from this era, right now. Sean 3
Sean Hampsey Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Can't believe for a minute it was played at Mr M's although pretty sure I recall it being played in the main room in the final months of Wigan. Sean
Steve G Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 but while on honeymoon in London in 82 i found it on a 12"! Hi Arthur, thats funny….I found another 12" NIA record in London in 82….nowhere near as good though. reckon yopu got there before me LOL! 1
Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Can't believe for a minute it was played at Mr M's although pretty sure I recall it being played in the main room in the final months of Wigan. Sean Thanks Sean - anyone else confirm?
Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 And even more interesting to see how there seems to be a 'revived' interest in records from this era, right now. Sean What early 80's sounds are getting played?
Chris Turnbull Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 I paid $40 USD about a year ago... M Reckon you got a bargain there Mal
Steve G Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Thanks Sean - anyone else confirm? I'd be surprised if it was played at the Casino. Possible for Searling but then I get the venues mixed up and might be thinking of his sets at Rotherham. I am sure Mark Freeman from Nuneaton would know since he tried to amass every tune ever played there. 2
Sean Hampsey Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 What early 80's sounds are getting played? Big interest in recent times in things such as: Bileo 'You Can Win' Curtis ' How Can I Tell Her' Johnny Scott - Let Me Be A Winner Tony Fox - Love Let Love And Be Loved Pretenders - Just Be Yourself Reuben Howell - Can't Stop A Man In Love Rideout - Someone Special Along with High Feequency It was seen as a 'forgotten period' for many years, but certainly seems to be renewed interst in the sounds from this era. Sean 2
Arthur Fenn Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 i don't think so either Steve, Sam had left & without being funny its not a Richard kind of sound or in fact any of the jocks left at the casino. 1

I am sure Mark Freeman from Nuneaton would know since he tried to amass every tune ever played there. Agree Steve. I'm only half sure and that's cos I'm basing it on the fact that Richard's sets were obviously very similar at both venues. Do you agree that there seems to be a 'revived' interest in records from this era, right now? Bring back Blackbeat I say! Sean 2
