Guest Rubber Soul Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 This should be an easy one... Jimmy Delphs - "Almost" - which came out first - Carla or Karen? Thanks in advance.
Mtay9778 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 As Mark has said, Carla. There was a thread on here not long ago. I'm sure discogs shows the Karen release as a year later but would have to double check. Great record by the way!
Guest Rubber Soul Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Thanks, Mark!! Mtay - A great record it is, melancholic and brilliant... Labeat -yes, flip spot on, too...
Dave Pinch Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 came out in 1967 as the `A` side on carla then stuck on the `B` side of dont sign the papers baby on karen in april 1968..this was his most successful 45 reaching no 29 on the soul charts and even making no 96 on the billboard hot 100 and no 94 on cashbox in june of 1968 1
Douglaschip Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Check out Betty Lavette's version on Karen - just pips Jimmy Delph's for me! happy new year - Adam 1
Patto Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Check out Betty Lavette's version on Karen - just pips Jimmy Delph's for me! happy new year - Adam Agree mate Betty's version for me also.Think it was played as an ender record in the past but cant remember by who or where
Labeat Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Betty's version is good but its let down with the flip, at least the JD Carla has two cracking sides.... value for money
Tlscapital Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Jimmy's version is first while Betty's cover versions are not so suited for her voice IMHO. I like Betty before and after her venture on Karen but just not there. So my vote goes strongly for Jimmy Delphs on Carla with the wonderful flip side 'I've been fooled before'. 3
Paul R Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Agree mate Betty's version for me also.Think it was played as an ender record in the past but cant remember by who or where I used to play Bettys version as an ender to my spots in local nights in Plymouth late 70s early 80s. You probably didn't hear it there!!!!! Paul

It's a Canadian version of the Karen release with "Don't Sign The Paper" on the a-side. The catalogue number on the Atco label says "KAREN 1538X". Cheers Richard 2
