A Boxing Day distraction

What was your 'the' Soul Event of 2014 ?

you know,  that soul related night/day/moment that  you will now always associate 2014 with...

When Tommy Hunt returned to the stage for the finale at Skeggy weekender, after earlier succumbing to the heat of the onstage lights, for a guy of 80 plus years this to me show's his dedication, professionalism and love of soul. Keep on keeping on Tommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First visit to Eggborough.
Couple of quid to get in. Best sound system heard in the year in a Soul night by far. Ridiculously cheap bar.  Great people & that little back room where anything goes.

Hayley Records' discovery of unreleased Steve Mancha, Tony Hester, JJ Barnes, Deon Jackson, Jimmy Delphs, Sharon McMahan, Willie Jones, Eloise Laws, Chairmen of the Board, Barrino Brothers, Bobby Shepherd and Andrea Henry material.

Much more to come in 2015.

Happy New Year to all Soul Source members.

My first visit to Soul Shakers Bamberg. Blinding music, venues, town, atmosphere and people. Untouchable.

For me it was the Broughton Wings 14th Anniversary Night back in June. Had to close the doors at 9.15 and was genuinely gutted for the people who could not get in.

However, £2500 was raised on the night for The Breast Cancer Trust. Great to be able to give something back.

My 60th birthday Soul Party at Stubshaw in July was brilliant really enjoyed it and Janes Buffett was outstanding but best of all the guests donated £800 plus for the Steve Prescott Foundation a worthy cause for a true legend....

Bridlington 28th June Sat night my birthday was a close second in the rare room outstanding music spent with some really special people ...

Four Perfections at NCS at Radcliffe for me. Stone Foundation nailed it big time and together they and the group pulled off a great show. So much hard work for a what is effectively only 30 minutes on stage but worth it just to see the guy's faces as they came off stage. They couldn't believe the reception they received. Cheshire Cat grins all round.

Regards,

Dave

Refrained from mentioning Brid as I DJ there & didn't want to appear biased but must agree about the rare room on Saturday night as it was rather good.

For me it wasn't a big ticket event, or a niter or a dayer or live gig, or somewhere warm and exotic.

It was a regular Friday night at Route 61 in Sheffield - a proper grass roots northern club do.

Probably half way through the night and Tez the DJ finished his set with about half a dozen unbelievable records (IMO - Frank Dell, Harry Deal etc) and it was one of those occasions where everything clicked - I was in a room full of friends, with my soul mate Clare, great dance floor, dancing as well as I could, legs weren't aching, and it all made perfect sense - why it's such a big part of our lives and why we love it so much. If I experience that even once next year I'll be a happy bunny.

THEEEE BIG ONE IN W.A. Our second anniversary at The incredible Fly By Night soul nights in western Australia. A fantastic night of classic soul, rare soul and motown. With 441 in attendance and highest for an event of this kind. Great support from our regulars and for those who missed this amazing event  there is still time to visit this incredible venue. The secret is as said before we play something for everyone.  No apologies for shamefully bragging about it but it was a fantastic night, and we banned talc right from the start too, 2 years ago ..... doesn't bother people as you can see. A great eclectic mix of music gets played from Tammi lynn " gonna run away"  Supremes "stop in the name of love" , Marvin Gaye.."aint that peculiar" .  through to Jimmy Moore "church street sally" Johnny Praye "cant get too much love"  Kindly shepherds "lend me your hand" and Cecil Washington "don't like to loose" . If you are in W.A. visiting the FLY is a must......................

And then of course I must also add Brisbane national, who just pipped us for numbers. another incredible event that everyone must attend at least once.....post-20010-0-40980700-1419818524_thumb.j

Best two events for me and my wife were, the 100 club in august and Blackpool weekender in November. Both of which were great and we fully intend to attend again in 2015 all being well and several other allnighters during the year all good in there own way.

Watching the Northern Soul film soundtrack become Harmless's biggest-ever selling album in it's 20 year history and seeing it become Demon's biggest-seller of the year. Quite incredible for a so-called specialist release. It's still in the Top 100 UK Compilation chart and shifted over 900 copies in the last week alone.

Once again my best day out, by a hairs breadth I must say. With the Soul toon alldayers hot on it`s heels, was the brilliant Class of 72 Re-union. Once again the bar was raised at the event, and Paul and the team pulled it off superbly. Already booked again for this years instalment top event.

I'd go with that Kev and without doubt one of the best live performances ever has to be The Impressions at Prestatyn.

Biggest event for me has to be the Micky Cruise Memorial All Dayer last May bank holiday. 11 hours of quality soul with a DJ line up of 16 boys behind the decks. We had over 200 in attendance with an atmosphere I and everyone in attendance hadn't felt in many years.

We raised £1500 in Micky's honour for the Psoriasis Association.

Incredible dayer no one will ever forget...

Returning after 30 years kids grand kids living abroad divorce etc stunned to find so many venues and events to attend in fact I would say more of a choice now than when I first went as a kid 77-84.

Caistor weekender incredible atmosphere 1.50 anywhere in Yarmouth in a taxi all types of soul music

Summer in the Park Dunkenhalgh Hotel near Blackburn great location and relaxed atmosphere outstanding music in all three rooms great barbi DJs and punters alike really up for it

Leeds Central so many memories walking down those steps a couple of minutes for eyes to adjust to the dark thumping Northern Soul blasting at you not lost it well done and thanks to Steve Luigi for keeping it alive

so many more in 2015 to visit can't wait

On second thoughts, it was the Norman Connors gig on the South Bank in March. Cracking warm up do with the DJ's playing stuff from Mr Connors, Roy Ayers, Webster Lewis, etc. Great way to spend a Sunday

Eggborough, Junction 36 and Kingsway Hall. I only go to dance and these are the places to do it with all the right people. IMHO. There are plenty of others but the old school atmosphere in these places just does it.
