Pete S Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Here's a tricky one for you GREEN GRUNCHONS ALL STARS - GUYS AND GALS BOUNCE - BOO GA LOO LABEL Only get this once in a blue moon - it's an instrumental variation on Karate Boogaloo - price anyone?
45cellar Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I bought one £3 soul pack from Soul Bowl and this record was in there. I have only seen one other copy on ebay over the years and that's it. Sorry I can't help with price Pete, but obviously I consider this one to be incredibly rare.
Jerry Hipkiss Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) First scan I've ever seen! Nice...remember Gary Rushbrooke playing it when he guested down this way around 1980, never heard it since, guess I'll have to stick with my London issue of Jerry O. Value? Hard to tell as it comes around so infrequently! Edited December 16, 2014 by Jerry Hipkiss
45cellar Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 It is a difficult one to price Jerry. Couldn't find it on You Tube but it is a Variation on Karate Boo-Ga-Loo Theme or rather The Pearl.

Pete S Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 I've had three of these, this third one is, I think, the same copy as my second one which I sold in 2009!
Raresoul45s Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) That means he's never had one Mate!! LOL, so you can be funny sometimes. Price, I'd invite offers Pete. Darren Edited December 17, 2014 by Raresoul45s
Tony Smith Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Amazing how many "experts" don't know this, take it my offer was no good Pete
Pete S Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Amazing how many "experts" don't know this, take it my offer was no good Pete Your offer was double what it cost me anyway :-) but I'm not accepting £8, no way 1
Pete S Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 For those who haven't heard it, I'll put it on mixcloud in 5 minutes

Jerry Hipkiss Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Hmmm...either I went to the decks and looked, or he told me it was Green Gruncheons? Hard to tell this long after... 1
Shsdave Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Apparently, Gary played The Soulmates "Sock-in-soul" on Double Soul...doesn't have that additional brass the Green Grunchons has As I suggested on Face book & having now heard the Green Grunchons this is an exact copy of Jerry O Popcorn Boo-ga-loo Part 2 BL 104 Yes it has the additional Brass & is about a tenner as heard at Solid Hit in London Edited December 17, 2014 by SHSDave

I got lots of money for it so I don't care 2

As I said on facebook yesterday I had never heard the Grunchons version but read an article on it by Rob Partridge I think it was. I listened to your mixcloud & listened to my Jerry O. I think it's an exact copy so I would love to know what the difference is.

The difference is it's completely different, if you can't actually hear it by listening to the record then it's pointless me trying to explain, they're playing a different tune on the trumpets for a start!

Are you listening to popcorn boogaloo pt 2 ? I guess not if you think it's completely different
Pete S Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Are you listening to popcorn boogaloo pt 2 ? I guess not if you think it's completely different No, Karate Boogaloo
Shsdave Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 No, Karate Boogaloo Read my post Pete It's Popcorn Boogaloo Part 2
Pete S Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 Read my post Pete It's Popcorn Boogaloo Part 2 I can't find that anywhere but if it's the same backing track as part 1, it's the same except for added piano on Popcorn
Mrtag Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 It's not an exact copy, it's a variation on it using the original backing track, there are four or five versions, maybe more. I got lots of money for it so I don't care Hi Pete,It looks like you might be getting a really clean one to sell after New Years Eve might just give it one last outing
Shsdave Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I can't find that anywhere but if it's the same backing track as part 1, it's the same except for added piano on Popcorn Pete trust me it's the same as the Grunchons, it's got the added brass + what I think is organ in there. End of the day doesn't matter either way, I just thought I'd add to your facebook post. Unfortunately can't do a sound clip but after Christmas if you're interested I'll sort something out. To be honest I've not played Part 1 for many years as Part 2 is just so much better & totally instrumental. I'll give it a spin tonight
Shsdave Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) Ok Played Popcorn Boogaloo part 1 & have to say it sounds weak compared to Part 2. On part 2 you lose the vocal & thankfully the funky guitar which is replaced by organ & it's a much brighter / louder mix (no worry of drowning the vocal ?) with Brass & drums leading the way, a great stomping instrumental & identical to the Grunchons. Strange release with the name the Green Grunchons ? Edited December 18, 2014 by SHSDave
Dave Pinch Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 what about this one..cheap as chips https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb2EvXQOHuk 3
