Mine was Yellow & forged..........nicked some of the right coloured card from work & copied the lettering off my mates with a felt tip.Got in for ages with it until I lost it & had to get a new one which I think was a light blue?

Cheers

Martyn

Nice one "M"

Typical of a "tight Yorkshireman",

you will of course heard that famous ancient Yorkshire war cry before the bartering began

" HOW MUCH !"

I got this, late 79 ...No. 091048?

Edwin Starr autographed it at Yarmouth scooter rally a couple of years later.   Got in a sorry state over years, so I laminated it

I can remember my 1st one was a very low number, in the 30s/40s but I lost it pretty early on. I can half remember being able to get a new membership card through a sort of serving hatch or kiosk just inside the Beachcomer while waiting for the doors to open, i`m sure I got my 2nd one (Blue) from there :g:

I bet no one else has had their membership card stolen by a burglar :(

Mine was blue BTW, still got the blues & soul with the page cut out… 1978

Yep mine was stolen too.

I used to keep it in my wallet along with my 6T's membership card. No idea what number the Wigan card was, but it was light blue. My wife had bought the wallet for me at a Mulberry sample sale, and although I was pretty angry to lose that, it was way worse to lose the membership cards.

I had a hell of a job proving to the insurance company that the wallet was Mulberry. Eventually they accepted that it was worth quite a bit in terms of replacing it, but they wouldn't shift on valuing the cards as worthless. Sad world eh?

The talk about sending off for stuff in Blues & Soul reminded me that they started the advert pages and the heading was CLUBS/DISCOS/GEAR. I think they changed the Gear word to events. Probably because no one ever advertised any gear, just unfeasibly wide trousers, denim coats with fur collars, jade fists, & plastic belts with "Right On Brother" on them.  Not a black bomber in sight.

The earliest one was red. There were pale blue and yellow versions also. The ladies card was green. I have a blue one, a yellow one and two green ones in the name of the old girlfriend. My first membership was separated into two, as were many others, as the wheeze was to give a mate without a membership, half of one to flash to the bouncer on the door. Estimates put the total membership at 100,000 but this is probably an overestimate given the number of us who had several membership cards.

Yes I had a red one, then lost it and used any I could get hold of after that.

Wow I had Brit No 8

That would of been for the two Brit allnighters in 1980

Anyone else have one of these. I think it was to do with the Raven at Whitchurch with Soul Sam. Not sure though and I think Tony Petherbridge might have passed on?

Mine was yellow (mid '76?).  Don't know the number as it's in a frame with a few others including my Mrs' from Cleethorpes and mine from Leeds Central which I got Martha Reeves to sign when she appeared at Batley Variety Club (or was it Frontier by then?) on 1/3/77.

I borrowed one for the first year!! There were always loads of kids at school who had a membership card but never went!

Here's mine - a bit the worse for wear! Used to get very hot and sweaty in my back pocket and I think it went in the washing at least once. So I covered it in tape to hold it together. (p.s. just found the envelope it came in - strange the things you keep!)

Looks like mine! First time I went (1978) I tore it in half, showed the front cover and got in, 'loaned' the back page to a mate who didn't get in until about 3.30am! Put both pieces in my pocket and thought no more about it until on the coach home next morning and found two soggy bits! They dried naturally on way back to North East and I repaired it with sellotape and used it again and again! Still have it today along with another blue one which I got in 1979 as I thought you had to renew each year, but I never used the "new" card so its almost mint!! Edited by AndyJ

I can remember sending off for my Wigan membership a good twelve months before I went to the October oldies allnighter in 1976, my first visit that will never be forgotten for many good reasons, the first of many over the next five years. I have no idea what happened to my membership card over the years during which I have moved house four times since those days wish I still had it.

I can't quite understand why anyone would want to buy a replica membership card, is it to go with all those dodgy badges and other tat that seems to be in abundance on eBay? ....at the end of the day you either went or you didn't .....oh and mine was a blue one
