Mal C Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Remember Edwin Starr did 'Time' at the Q Club in Birmingham, banks of Horns knocked me out then, but I never heard singing like this from the audience... poor old JJ Barnes got heckled that night and all...

Pete S Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) This tape has JJ Barnes, followed by The Marvelettes then Edwin Starr live, MC is Chris King, does this ring any bells? Both acts sound out of tune! Edited November 21, 2014 by Pete S
Lucky One Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Just read the interview with Major lance at the stoke alldayer which followed his performance at Hinckley, which my future wife and I attended could not go to Hinckley on the Saturday night as I was at work that weekend, after which we went up to stoke to see him for his show on theevening . I remember there not being many in attendance due to Hinckley, on the plus got shake his hand at end every time I hear one of his records I always think of that. Two months later went to Hinckley to see the Ric-Tic review one of the best nights ever, thanks Pete for bringing back great memories of a great period in my life. 1

Guest Byrney Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) Went to the dayer at Newcastle (Staffs) Tiffs where Major Lance was playing straight after the nighter at Hinkley. It was poorly attended - couple of hundred in or so. Edited November 21, 2014 by Byrney
Guest Mart B Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I went has well Burney, yes it was poorly attended.I think Newcastle Tiffs in them days was a big Darts venue.
Pete S Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) Need to mention that moderators have split the topic, it was about a live recording I had of the event in the title, which is available to download from my website www.rare-soul.com, there's a sound clip on there as well. puw Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Has no one got any flyers? My recollection of the first Ric-Tic Revue @ Hinkley had Edwin Starr, Eddie Parker, JJ Barnes and I think a female artist (God it's so long ago - so I could be getting mixed up with later revues). Martha Reeves did a concert @ Newcastle (Staffs) Tiffs, I think around the same time.

No Eddie Parker…..It was Al Kent and as Pete says Pat Lewis….Al Kent was a lovely guy, but only did one number as I remember…. Edited December 2, 2014 by Steve G
Roburt Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) Lou Ragland was also on those Ric Tic Review shows. The package also played the Ritz in Manc (a Sunday alldayer I seem to recall). Lou was brought in as a late replacement (for Laura Lee ?) as he had known Edwin for many years and was available to travel to the UK at short notice. Edited December 2, 2014 by Roburt

Steve, he is first on and plays fairly nondescript versions of Oooh Pretty Lady and You Got To Pay The Price, instrumentals, he doesn't sing anything, maybe he was band leader? 1
puw Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Now I know I am getting confused lol. Eddie was certainly there at Hinkley at a Revue, 'cause I'm there watching him sing Love You baby. Yep, Al Kent was at one too now you mention it. Wish I could put my hands on the photo's .... grrr
