Windlesoul Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Need the where and when these two versions were played on the scene in the UK. The Delacardos I imagine was just 'always around' and only received minor plays, though Lee Tillman and the Secrets - was this not covered up at one point Stafford-ish era? Guy / Keb maybe or Gary? Or am I imagining this? I'm sure Chalky can help (please), Cheers in advance. Edited November 19, 2014 by Windlesoul
Sammy Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Love the Lee Tillman version. Played this in Stockholm a few months back... 1
Guest Garry Huxley Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 delacardos first heard it 100 club 81/82 ish sure heard it Stafford bit later only just got a copy last week
Davenpete Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I once had a Delcardoes materialise in my sales box at the 100 Club - assumed a mate had shoved it in there on the way to the floor, but spent ages asking round everyone and all the record dealers and never found where it came from. Dx
Chalky Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 One of those I don't have a DJ for from that era. Used to get em on tape swaps.
Windlesoul Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) OK cheers, just thought the Lee Tillman in particular had a formal introduction of sorts to the scene. Probs just appeared around then maybe. Interestingly, as an aside Lee informed me he was Merle Spears' cousin, but the pair only realised in more recent years before Merle passed away. Anyway, if interested at all you can read the Lee Tillman / Whit story in my next book due out March 2015, and for that matter the Delacardos' story which was presented in the first one. Chalky Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Asked on the Stafford group and not remembered on there either for any plays back then.
Chalky Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I asked Guy Mark and here is his answer.... No Chalky, I may have played in an all-Dayer oldies spot at the time, but defo not TOTW. It was played at early Wigan, and the other take/version was pretty common. 1
Shsdave Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I first heard it on a manship tape, afraid don't know the date but it was full of Stafford stuff. Was going to play it at Solid Hit 10th Anniversary tonight but think i put it back on the shelves while sorting stuff yesterday 1
