Could have been clearer......I meant that it was one of the best girl records on the planet Pete

Also....if they were to clean up the vocal to today's standard it would ruin the atmospheric feel of the 45.

OK Jock this mornings little selection was, Dobie Gray - Honey you can take it back, Rosey Jones - Have love will travel, Rotations - Changed man, Mike Jemison - You'll never get me love, Attractions - Mams baby, Edwin Starr - Don't tell me I'm crazy

Thank you kind sir, the Rotations one and the Edwin Starr one were the ones driving me crazy. Fantastic records, and surprised but delighted at old Edwin.

I did get the Mike Jemison one, still have my copy when they suddenly appeared em masse cheap, in 81 according to the sleeve, and put it in the growing pile of 45's for sale where I have doubles or have it on an LP's ,but looked it at for 10 minutes, gazing lovingly and then decided it would better framed on my wall as an artefact of my jounrey rather than selling it for peanuts. ALways loved it, always will, and yes that certainly reminds me of Station Road on a Saturday evening, when I was starting to find my feet. Great 45 and again quite amazing thinking of it being a main room monster in todays fragmented scene

The Doby Gray would surprise many I suspect, I remember Dave Molloy digging it out, I looked over cynically and then though wow that would sound great out, not sure I ever have heard it out,

It predates the Casino Mark, it was reissued in 68 or 69 because it was so popular and never deleted, it was a revival in early 1978 and that's when the Congress pressings were done.

Les Cokell certainly played it at the Wheel - we have his old copy somewhere (he hated it BTW).

I think in this era of ovo it is forgotten for that very reason - I have only ever seen 1 real copy, and I can't remember the last time I heard it out. Massive in its day too.

One I had heard of (at the time) but not managed to hear until an odd, occasional revisitation to the casino and Richard played it - best record of the night!

What about - Evil - by Posse on Janus.

This still gets plenty of plays. I think it even got a reactivation from Butch a few years ago.

A couple I don't hear are The Soulettes - Bring Your Fine Self Home, Fluffy Falana - My Little Cottege, The Sapphires - Gotta Have Your Love

Tougher than tough. I think I've only ever seen one copy in 40 odd years. Was always super rare.......

Sapphires "Gotta Have Your Love", was a biggie long before Wigan, but "Slow Fizz" was still a biggie when Wigan opened.

Also "Evil One" was played there.

Thought "Honey You Can't Take It Back" was Mecca?

Johnny Moore - Walk Like A Man

King Davis House Rockers - Baby You Satisfy Me

Kirst Allan - Walk Tall Like A Man

Just a few I remember from the aerly days at Wigan.

Not sure if they originated at Wigan or were Mr.M's tracks. All a bit fuzzy, Wigan, Cleethorpes, Mecca Samantha's........ can never remember where I heard em first.

I agree this is a great record but the actual vocal is not great, you can't hear what she's saying a lot of the time.

Well bugger me I thought this was a bloke for all those years!!!

Live & learn.

How about this

Always thought of this as a Yate tune, was first found by the late Gary Jeffries (brother of Steve), who sold it to Ian Clark. Who played it at Wigan ?

Gary was a real nice guy, who was sadly killed in a car crash on the way back from a Whitchurch alldayer

Here's one you don't (well I don') hear these days.

Rufus Lumley, I'm In Love Again.

This was spun by the top order DJs surprised to see it going for $30 on popsike on Skyscraper (Cameo-Parkway), I'll wager this disk fetched a tidy sum back in the day…

Just a few random ones that would be nice to hear played out every now and again, some may disagree but imo all decent tunes

Sandra Richardson -Stay Here With Me

Lou Roberts - Everything Yiu Wanted To Know About Love

Patti Austin - Music To My Heart

Dorothy Morrison- I Can't Go Without You (Mecca)

Dean Courtney - Love You Just Can't Walk Away

The Embers - Watch Out Girl

Betty Boo - Say It Isn't So

Posted

Monster forgotten oldie at Wigan - not 2 week wonder elsewhere.? :g:

Might be missing the point here, if so I apologise in advance. It was a lot bigger than some of the tracks mentioned on this thread (5th dimension for example), are you saying that it wasn't big or that you didn't/don't like it?

I only know it from Pep playing it at Wigan - this would be pre October 76, reason I remember this, our youth club always did a trip to the last night of Blackpool illuminations, and I bought this on the morning of the trip.  Strange what we remember.

The last three are awesome.  Always thought that Lou Roberts was the worst of his three big records.

Ah! We'll have to agree to differ then. it was a lot bigger than a lot of posts in the thread, again to use 5th dimension as an example, I couldn't sell it for 50p back in the day - not exactly monster material.

Yeah, don't dissagree to be honest, was a biggie for a short time though Pete.

It was.  Odd thread this.  Don't know whether to mention good forgotten sounds or bad ones!

There's certainly both good & bad on this one.

Would like the good ones more, nothing better than re-discovering a great sound that's long gone.

Speaking of which, Long Gone, Debbie Flemming just came into my head?

Before my time, but was a big sound of the day?

My trouble is, don't know what gets spun and doesn't around the country.

It was, in 1975, so much so that it got a UK release as well.  Not sure why, always thought it was a bit lightweight.
