Lee Mitchell, filtered down from the Mecca.?

How about Ann Perry - "Thats the way he is",dont here that too often.Probably tough to crowbar into a set now.?

Lee Mitchell I still love & listen to regularly, short life span, remember it at Cleethorpes but could have originated fro Mecca. :hatsoff2:

Forgotten sounds from the Casino? Ann Perry was played here in Spain by Mark Sargeant last Saturday night. Admittedly, Spain isn't the UK. I note that most of the records people are posting are 60s tunes. What about some long forgotten 70s biggies? When I first started going there "Love Trap" was being played to death, it was huge, absolutely huge. Ain't it weird how some would want to resurrect dire 60s stuff but ignore stuff like T.D. Valentine? At the risk of being booed, I still quite like "Love Trap". I also love the French Fries.

Macca your not allowed to mention 70's music, it heresy, punishable by ridicule & people saying "Disco" a lot or prancing about like a Prima Ballerina btw I love it all, Yours Rudolf Nureyev Rodgers.  :shades:

Another big tune for Richard. One time member of Soul Brothers Inc. of Pyramid fame

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I have had this tune in my head since the 1970's and never knew what it was. Sorry, totally off topic - but a life changing moment, ha ha :)

One of my favourites,Wigan sound (to me anyway) again not really a monster but I never hear it out...

Duke & Leonard - just do the best you can

When was this first played?... it's pretty much my favourite record ever and I know very little about it. In fact when I got a copy in the very late 70s it seemed to be the only copy around - I didn't know anyone else who had it or even knew it. Nice to know it was a Wigan spin.

Think '76 was when we heard it at Wigan....don't know by who or when it was first played.

It was first played at the Mecca in 74 and discovered by Ian Levine. It quickly lost momentum when I had a major hit in New York with various titles including D&L, The Millionaires( Big Bunny) and The Quotations(Di-Venus) in fairly hefty quantity.

Was D&L the first artists to release it then Kev? I assumed it was a mid to late sixties track on StompTown Records,  still a good track to dance to though

Torch, I think Steve was discussing this with an old boy some years ago at Stoke, he said it was a Torch classic, can someone verify please?

D&L meaning Duke and Leonard. I had around 200 of it in 1975. A great record but discovered in the middle of Northern's golden era hence it failed.

Kev. does that mean it's failed forever? Surely due a spin - a great record is a great record... is a great record!

PS is Leonard no other than Len Jewell Smith? I'm sure I heard that somewhere.

Its a good record, but as with 1,000's more it just needs a spark from dancers and who knows.

Leonard Jewell Smith is not the Leonard on this track. They are a New York pairing. LJS is from LA.
