Happy has been played constantly then as you say got hammered on the back of Ferrel Williams for some reason. Not just your selection though, a lot mentioned are far from forgotten.

Where as Just leaving it at 'Forgotten Monsters' Could be any track from the last 50 years.

Just happens that the majority of contributors dont know them as that, and actually think they were first played at the Casino. But hasn't that always been the case? You only have to look at so-called Wigan Casino Story compilations, and you'll see "Looking for you", "Happy", "I can't get a hold of myself" etc. etc. all listed there, when they were all Wheel tunes. I even saw a sales ad on this site recently that made me chuckle out loud. A seemingly respected seller had listed Otis Smith "Let her go" for sale, and described it as an "classic early Wigan floor filler". It wasn't. Yes, it got plays, as many other tunes fo that period did, but it was TORCH monster, from eighteen months previously. It certainly wasn't as popular in that first year at Wigan as Moses Smith, Duke Browner and Earl Wright still were.

Its what it is I suppose. If it was reissued then, it was well after I'd left the scene, so had no idea it had become as popular as it had been several years previously. As you so rightly say though, for all of us, at completely different periods in time, happy days indeed!

As you say, when played in the main room, it used to make the place jump.

Expand I think basically your right mate.But realistically no Wigan monsters will ever be totally forgotten as if the tune was a monster then there must be loads of people who still remember the tune.Its all subjective and as previously stated depends on Your age,the venues you attended,When or if you left the scene for a period.Regionally some records that get hammered are lesser played at other places. However i think this thread has thrown up a boat load of records that many posters have said they have not heard for several years so they are forgotten in that respect. At least it got us talking about records and its given us all a lot of enjoyment along the way. 5

Expand It's very rare these days that I hear something played out and say to myself......"Bloody hell, I haven't heard that for ages". I don't think it's a case of long forgotten, more that they don't fit into the tried and tested, well established, call it what you will, playlists that get churned out week after week. You're even subjected to the same records repeated by different DJs on the same night. Some of the records posted have put a smile on my face and brought back great memories, others are probably best forgotten. "A Lot of Love", posted earlier today, took me back to the main room at Wigan circa 79/80, and stomping for all I was worth, but it still gets regular plays. Tamala Lewis, less plays, still invokes memories of Station Road for me, but not quite in the "haven't heard for ages" category for me. Like you say, could be a regional thing, and obviously depends on how often you're out and about and what venues you attend. Some stuff gets "reactivated" whether it deserves to or not, whilst other stuff very rarely gets an outing. After seventeen pages people are having to really dig deep to come up with truly forgotten monsters from the Wigan era, and I'm sure there's a lot of "repeat plays". Still an interesting thread but not all records mentioned fit the original brief. 1
