Since 90+% of those who went to nighters (when these were still around) will have munched their way through a few hundred of these over the years is there really any need for being a stuffed shirt about them being posted in what seems to be a rather silly thread anyway? I for one feel very nostalgic for Riker, Evan's and Smith Klein's (sadly I missed R&Bs, G&Cs, Daps and Filon) splendid products and wish they were still around. Davenpete
Before my time, but one of my all-time favourites (Moses Dillard - maybe only actually heard it a couple of times at nighters myself) and dodgy pop shite (that I also have a soft spot for) - both actually pretty much forgotten though which is what the thread is SUPPOSED to be about. Colouredman
Yeah mate, I know; coming from a man who’s managed to go more off the topic of ‘forgotten monsters’ than anyone here, thats funny For me the ‘forgotten’ issue is largely about forgotten by the dancers and forgotten by the collectors. Some Wigan monsters are 4 figure records and still talked about and lusted and danced to (e.g Salvadors, Eddie Parker, Frank Wilson etc etc). But most of those I mentioned are not talked about or particularly danced to relative to their former huge status. When was the last time you heard Pennygold played, or Cherry People? Youd kill a floor with some of those records now. Try get a full floor to Nightowl.... impossible; collectors arent interested either but mid 70’s at Wigan that record was king; hence the ‘forgotten’ tag for me. Dont worry about it though Steve; drop another ‘green n clear’ n let it all float over your buzzing head!. Only jokin mate; its all good 1 Link to comment Social source share

Totally different tune to the Detroit Land Apples. In my defence, it was a VERY long time ago, and my mind at the time was usually somewhat fogged. So many booted in 73 & 74. Even at only a quid a pop, no-one I knew could afford to buy all they wanted. Must have been ten a week being churned out by those nice Nottinhgham people. Oh, and someone previously mentioned the instrumental to "Lets spend the night together". I remember it being sold in Raplhs Manchester, late 73. But did anyone actually on here it ever get played anywhere? It was complete dross, even by the standards of the time. Quality instrumentals were ten a penny back then, eh? Really good tune. And yeah, LA Power & Light were the perpetrators of that abomination. I first heard it in Ralph's, possibly late 73. Got the young girl who worked there to spin it for me, and it was a REAL WTF moment for me. Total dross. Can't recall the label, but pretty sure it was dark/navy blue in colour? Ed Although obviously not there at the time, I can easily understand and agree regarding the lowest point etc. I really can't think of anything I ever heard quite as bad, and I've heard LOTS of crap over the years. I can just imagine Russ, stood there, thinking to himself, "If Cockell can play You're Ready Now at the Wheel, I reckon I can get away with this one".
