Art Gentry - Merry Go Round

Wasn't this one of Richard Searlings C/Ups?

No Russ used to play this, as Art Gentry, only played it 3 or 4 times in the main room, it's definitely on a tape from April 77 that I posted up

Jerry can't find your reply but got it in my feed I thought no one would get that What sad bastards we are : ).......and yes you're correct

Funny, I can't see it either! BTW in the "Soul Survivors" book, Russ lists it by its cover up artist...which begs the question, did he actually have an Arctic copy or just a dub he was fed?

Yeah, there were lots of girlie tunes late 70's wasn't there?
Thinking of stuff like GERRI THOMAS, LOOK WHAT I GOT, PEGGY MARCH, IF YOU LOVE ME or even PAULA DURANTE'S IF YOU WERE MINE, all big floor fillers, the place was certainly in touch with it's feminine side at that time.

All the real manly hard edged vocals seemed to have been from earlier, you know the stuff, Del Larks, Don Varner, even Johnny Sayles, REAL MAN SOUL, the soul equivalent to Steak & Chips as opposed to Smoked Salmon Blini's  :wicked:

Was an oldie even in my time, but was big,

Don't seem hear it it much, not saying its forgotten, just I don't hear it.

Smells of Wigan Casino.

My all time number 1 of all time.. Will always be a class record. My copy came as a gift in the early 9t's, cost $1.75 on a trip to the US. One of the most magical moments of my life..

Baby Dolls and Herbert Hunter,   St Ives for me.       Oddly enough,  i heard the Baby Dolls last saturday,     first time out for a good 40  years !

In no particular chronological order, and a mixture of excellent, and the good bad and ugly from Wigan; all were big though, and some beyond huge! Some are just plain funny.

Little Joe Romans (Still super rare)

Night Owl (Nothing was bigger than this mid 70’s at the Casino!)

Danny Monday (Likewise this)

Wakefield Sun Trypt on love

General Assembly Sensitive mind

Detroit Landapples

Ollie Jackson Day my heart stood still.

The Jewells

Construction

Lamont Cranston Band

Colouredman

Gary Lewis My hearts symphony (I kid you not!)

Baja Marimba band Along comes Mary

Paul Peek Im movin uptown

EJ Chandler

Jackie Forrest Show me how to love

Lindy Stevens Pennygold Decca

Johnny Vanelli

Lou Roberts (All)

Deadbeats No second chance (Probably more speculation about this as a cover up than any other RS record ever.... rumoured to be the rock group ‘Whitesnake’ at some point!)

Seeds Pushin too hard (horrible horrible record but huge for Russ)

Trade Martin She put the hurt

Cherry People And suddenly

The Poppies Pain in my heart

"The Poet" album actually came out in 1981(October?/November?) so it's possible but doubtful that it was played at Wigan.

Nov 1981, highly unlikely it was played and the one who probably would have played it had left after the first “last” all-nighter in September. Played at Clifton Hall and Stafford.

Massive floor filling tracks they may have been but to most on the scene today they may as well be the Rarest of the Rare given most clueless Jocks just focus on the same old few tracks whenever Station Rd is mentioned.

I remember all of those in sections 1/2 but where sre the blueys? Unless the colour is a bit off on 8/9. I'm pretty sure I've seen that chart before, or something very similar, in a police station.

My mate  sent it via what's app  yesterday and I thought it was quite apt for this thread. As you say colour not very good. I thought No 8 looked like Decs. But could be anything.
