Kind of fits with the nice, cuddly, okehy cokeh nostalgia scene image of Northern Soul. Just glad the film had a bit of grit about it to try and counter this sort of banal 'that's why Russ shops at Iceland' crap.

it's like when kilts & bagpipes were outlawed in scotland for 2 centuries for what they represented,..then the queen vic thought they looked great and everybody fell in love with em again!..from a hypocritical perspective you understand!

Don't know why people are shocked over this. For years this scene has been a parody of what it once was. One or two there who looked like they may have attended do's in the past and attempting some 'serious dancing' are the ones who let it down. The rest looked like they were just having fun.

Well I like seeing kids enjoy themselves and they looked like they were having a fabulous time, you grumpy b*stards.

Someone on the youtube comments says that the Etta James record is sh*t.  Etta James and sh*t, not two words that usually go together

etta james, such a legend..the fabric of r n' b....just different strokes again..innit?

Why are all the keyboard warrior's up in arms again. Who gives a fcuk what the world thinks. We know the truth.

Steve

But what is the truth nowadays? perhaps the truth is that what you see on this clip and the divvy dancing lessons posted earlier, possibly that is now the true picture of Northern Soul In 2014 for the majority. Looking at Facebook Northern groups it would seem so. Edited by Byrney

Check out there tight historical perspective to: https://www.dance-dynamic.co.uk/html/dance_northern_soul.html

Northern Soul is loosely defined genre of music designed to be a catchall term for rare Motown, Chicago and New York soul singles played by British DJs of the post-mod, pre-punk subculture during mid to late 1970s in northern England. A continuation of the mod lifestyle of the late 1960s--which combined a working class wardrobe and ethos. Northern Soul is a mélange of typically black American music and dance moves with the energetic spins and drops that would later exemplify the United Kingdom's house music scene.

How did they get the deck to play when the cart cover was still covering the stylus?

Wrong label too!!....

Never mind that - Etta James 7 Day fool on a tri-centre RCA Victor label - must be the super rare Argentinian issue….….probably £1 from Russ's stall in the Casino….

Fantastique. Made me smile seeing the locals out having fun. Maybe Wigan's finally waking up to it's musical heritage. Time to re-build The Casino and incorporate a National Museum perhaps... My late gran used to dance at The Emp but The Casino as we know it started in September 1973. I hope the Christmas shoppers will be boogieing around to the sound of piped Salvadors, Jades and Lou Pride this coming festive season...

The truth is i have never seen anyone from this clip at any nighter i go to . A true picture is available at most  nighters in the country and probably soul nights too. I say probably because i don't really go soul nights,

What a load of pretentious twaddle, lifted no doubt from some media undergraduate's coursework. There are so many errors in these three sentences, they should be deleted.
