Liamgp Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 You're The Guy...When was this first played at a Northern event? Wonderful record and very atmospheric but it seems a bit slow for mid-70s tastes but I guess not everything was a full-blown stomper then.
Pete S Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Stafford I'd guess...never heard it til late 80's
Liamgp Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Stafford I'd guess...never heard it til late 80's Don't recall ever hearing it at Stafford, I'm sure it was early 80s when I first heard it, however.

Wigan, late 70s, very briefly - about the same time as Gloria and the T-Aira's "I'm Satisfied" 1
Pete S Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Wigan, late 70s, very briefly - about the same time as Gloria and the T-Aira's "I'm Satisfied" Have Gloria on Wigan tape June 77 Only time I ever heard it
Godzilla Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Have Gloria on Wigan tape June 77 Only time I ever heard it I remember someone nicked some records from Dave Withers' stall on Bury market and I have a feeling that both of those records were among them. That's probably why I remember that they were around at the same time.
Chalky Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I have it down as an Ian Clark spin so that would make it 82/83 at Stafford, he could have been playing it earlier?
Seano Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I got this in a soul pack, I think from Soul Bowl or maybe Black Grape, and always liked this side and used to put it on tape swaps. But as is so often the case with changing tastes, give the flip side a listen "Hey Baby" - really nice track and one that I do think could get played out too. Sadly I can't help with dating it or linking it to who played it, but if it was one of those Soul packs I think I went for them in the early 80's rather than some of the different suppliers in the mid/late 70s when I tended to get more pressings in the packs.
Jonathan Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Hi great record I used to play it 78/79 never managed to break it 3
Pomonkey Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Pretty much every soul 45 seller at shows over here has it in their boxes and they never seem to shift as they're all trying to get $75-$100 still, nice little record but over-priced given the quantity around.
Guest CapitolSC Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Was Popular down the 100 club for sure mid 80s Bought mine off Ian Clark Al H
Rich B Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Hi great record I used to play it 78/79 never managed to break it Beat me to it JW - I was going to mention that I had heard you play it around '79.
Pete S Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Was Popular down the 100 club for sure mid 80s Bought mine off Ian Clark Al H I got Gene Robertson's copy so that would also probably have come from the 100 Club. What a great record. 1

tosspot Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 I have it down as an Ian Clark spin so that would make it 82/83 at Stafford, he could have been playing it earlier? Hiya Chalky, you maybe right, cos Dean Anderson covered Shirley Edwards up as Argie & the Arkettes & that must have been in the mid 80s (IMHO) 1
Carty Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Played around Manchester 79 ,80. bought a copy off Dave Withers For £ 4.00 after it had been lingering in his sales box for months first at £ 10.00 , then £ 6.00 . haunting atmospheric sound .
