Sebastian Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 (edited) Robert Darden's book People Get Ready!: A New History of Gospel Music" is absolutely essential reading for anyone interested in the history of gospel music in particular and the roots of african american music in general. Thoroughly researched and well written (although a bit "academic" at times). Check it out: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0826414...8&s=gateway Edited August 9, 2006 by Sebastian
Guest Andy BB Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I assume you've found this one already but just in case.... https://www.americangospel.com/
Richard Bayley Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Just a suggestion - have you tried the US Library of Congress archives, online? I know a lot of US folk and blues (together with interviews/biog details) are on there, some of them dating back to the 1930s - perhaps there is gospel as well? I know I've heard Gospel tracks on Andy Kershaw's show, that he's said have been taken from the LoC archives. Never searched myself....good luck!
Guest Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 thanks for all of these. will post up any details of project events when it gets going (in Birmingham)
