Jordirip Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I'm sure I just heard an advert on the tv using Gil Scott Heron's 'When You Are Who You are'. Except it wasn't Gil, it was someone else, but it still sounded ace! Aviva website I think? Never mind Northern, funky crossover's gone mainstream! 1
Ncfc Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Yep i turn round and look when ad comes on. Simply be catalogue addy.
Mak Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I heard it the other day , I had to stop and make sure I was not hearing things

Pretty sure it was the GSH version though. They sometimes tamper with things for adverts don't they - speed up a bit or equalise for TV sound?
MrsWoodsrules Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Yeah, it's deffo the GSH version, as I wasn't sure it was him myself, I paused the tv and then used Shazam, came up with GSH.

Dave Pinch Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 and now theres money to be made on gil...they`ve taken the you tube vids down..well mines been removed anyway..parasites
Davenpete Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Different stuff but The Glories' I Worship You Baby popped up randomly as background music in an episode of Drifters I was watching the other night (bingewatched the whole series one evening and there's no other Northern in there). Dx
Garswood Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Yep I heard it the other day, didn't sound like GSH to me though, I've got pieces of a man LP and played it next to the AD, vocals sound different to me, but like said above they could have tampered with it, fantastic track though.

Guest son of stan Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Really don't think its the Gil Scott Heron version based on the one and only time I saw the ad. Pity he's not still here to make a few quid out of it. ...although I like to think he wouldn't have sold his music out to The Man. Then again, he did do the 'You know when you've tangoed' voiceover!...
Drewtg Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 One of the best live acts i have seen. Ditto. Kentish Town in the 80's. Sadly missed, reckon he died of disappointment with Obama.
