Eddyw Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 hi , what was the finishing price for Bettye Swann - when the game is played on you , atlantic Thanks Eddy
Dobber Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 his auction doesnt show final prices, his auction works the same way as making offers on here,no one ever really knows or see's anything unless the seller decides to reveal. a bit dated really compared to others.
Eddyw Posted October 25, 2014 Author Posted October 25, 2014 thanks for that mate , strange not showing the results . Thanks Eddy
Popular Post Premium Stuff Posted October 25, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2014 Everybody has a go at John Manship's auction - but when you look at the other main auctions - Tim's and Pat's - John's is a million light years ahead in terms of transparency, openness, user-friendliness etc. Cheers Richard 11

Well I'm sure Tim will let people know if anyone wants to ask him……Always found him very straight to deal with personally.

Premium Stuff Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) Just think everyone should 1) adopt winning bid is an increment above the last highest bid approach (i.e. proxy bidding - not blind bidding) and also 2) be open and transparent about the final bid - so we all know the result and can see how we did. Think that would actually encourage more, and higher, bids on some auctions - where perhaps the general lack of confidence isn't there among the punters just now. Thank you and goodnight Richard Edited October 25, 2014 by Premium Stuff 2

Mister Fish Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Bought two copies for a fiver each a few months back gave one away to a mate! Its the Butch affect, damn. 1
Chalky Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 There has been plenty of copies about recently, it ought to be £50. 2
Cunnie Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 There has been plenty of copies about recently, it ought to be £50. Reckon it soon will be £50 again once the novelty value has worn off Chalky. Remember the Jamaican copy's of Sam Dees.... 1
Undergroundman Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The Jamaican Sam Dees have never seen the shores of the island at all , and I would suspect the Jamacian Betty Swanns as well
Reg Scott Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Although "WHEN THE GAME IS PLAYED ON YOU" didn't chart how rare can it be? How many Atlantic issues have remained above 100 squid and what is the likelihood of a box of these 'turning up' .. Given the quality of the tune it should fetch at least as 'KISS MY LOVE GOODBYE" regardless.. 1
Steve Plumb Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The Jamaican Sam Dees have never seen the shores of the island at all , and I would suspect the Jamacian Betty Swanns as well That's a really interesting statement? Would be great if you could add a bit more flesh to the bones, as I've heard that before said about Sam Dees and now of course Bettye Swann? Can you give us some harder evidence or is it just your opinion? Don't mean owt funny by this, just interested to know what you base your statement on? Cheers Steve
Kegsy Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) The Jamaican Sam Dees have never seen the shores of the island at all , and I would suspect the Jamacian Betty Swanns as well Interesting, I had 2 off a Japanese dealer who sells predominantly reggae 45's most of which are Jamaican labels/copies. Its also says on the Bettye Swanns something about Dynamic sounds. I have also bought Atlantic 45's Inc. Sam Dees in Jamaica when on holiday. Edited October 27, 2014 by Kegsy
Pete S Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 wow £275 for a jamaican copy ...seems tim has some staunch followers just like john has..wonder what the milton wright on satiron finished at..was at £350 a few days ago What? That's not even a real record!
Chris L Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Bought two copies for a fiver each a few months back gave one away to a mate! Its the Butch affect, damn. Dreadful record, wouldn't buy it unless it was a quid.
Chalky Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Dreadful record, wouldn't buy it unless it was a quid. If you saw this for a fiver you would definitely buy it, you'd just come on here and sell it for a vastly inflated price 1
jimmy clitheroe Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 wow £275 for a jamaican copy ...seems tim has some staunch followers just like john has..wonder what the milton wright on satiron finished at..was at £350 a few days ago just out of interest , how do you know what the current Bids are at? only asking because its not like johns auction
Mal C Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The Jamaican Sam Dees have never seen the shores of the island at all , and I would suspect the Jamacian Betty Swanns as well Sam Dees all came from an Aussie dealer in Sydney.. I looked at a box of 200 plus of them all originally sleeved when I visited his shop, he has been supplying John Manship for years I guess...think I paid $40 USD for mine in 2004/5... Malcolm
Dave Pinch Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 just out of interest , how do you know what the current Bids are at? only asking because its not like johns auction You can see what the current bid is right up until the auction ends... Then the page disappears
jimmy clitheroe Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 You can see what the current bid is right up until the auction ends... Then the page disappears ok thanks dave
Sjclement Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Game is played on you was featured on one of the Sigma Sound cds that RS had some influence in I always thought it was an unreleased track as I never saw any copies for sale, with the amount and popularity of her Atlantic tracks its strange there was no album.
Dave Pinch Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) The Jamaican copies of bettye and sam have the same vinyl and label typeface as a load of other Jamaican stuff so they are good Imo... Just common.. The USA stock copies are infinately rarer Edited October 28, 2014 by dave pinch
Eddie Hubbard Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 What? That's not even a real record! Probably selling for the flip side , which is superb IMO Pete ...
