Billy Freemantle Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 (edited) Like lots of people I love looking at record labels - even scanned ones. Hope people don't find these A-Zs too "fluffy". They are an attempt to involve more people. As well as posting record labels in alphabetical order posters can hopefully comment on the label , mention key sounds etc etc. Anyway to get the ball rolling, here is an A. Not my favourite record this. Always found it too poppy. Edited November 5, 2004 by Billy Freemantle
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 My scanner doesn't work but I'd like to put some scans up, they won't be in alphabetical order though. First one is a very rare Detroit record, it's an alternative vocal to Jimmy Mack's 'Go On' (b side of My World Is On Fire). Looks rough but was nice enough.
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Unbelievably, when I put this - my own personal copy - up for sale nobody was intersted, I think I took £125 in the end!
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Again this is one that not that many people took an interest in, sold it for a ton i think, must be double that now. I had the Luther Ingram version on Hurdy Gurdy 2 lists ago for £150. The version by Douglas Gibson on TRC uses the same backing track as the Harrison brothers yet is still a cheapie.
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Probably my all time favourite beat ballad. Can't remember what I did with this copy.
Soulie78 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I got on for B. Not only the label also the singer. I have no information about label and artist, as I got it as gift from an ebay seller. So if someone has any, please help. I hope it will show the picture, it's my first.garry_brown.bmp

Soulie78 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 it didnt work cause of the format - best ones to use is jpeg or gif on programme you used see it there's a option to save as jpg link Thanks for the fast help Mike. I'll take jpeg for the future. I'm still learning...
Billy Freemantle Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 Probably my all time favourite beat ballad. Can't remember what I did with this copy. link I only know this from the Kent Chicago Soul (or something like that) LP that was put out in the 80s I think. And you say this is a brilliant track. The quality of the voice must make that one of the smoothest record sof any genre. I would realy like to get hold of people who rate Francis Albert Sinatra as the best voice of the 20th century and play them that Walter Jackson. I must go and play it now!
Guest biggray1 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 here is some that you dont see at all!
Guest biggray1 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 sorry they are not in alphabetical order
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 (edited) here is some that you dont see at all! link Thats really nice but I swear I've had this on a different label - only ever seen one copy, I think it was a yellow label - I sold it for £500 (talking about Curtis Lee) Edited November 5, 2004 by PeteStoneIsland

Do you still have a scan to post it? I've never seen it on this label Edited November 5, 2004 by soulie78
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Yes thats it. I bought it off Nancy, must be 4 years ago now
Soulie78 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Yes thats it. I bought it off Nancy, must be 4 years ago now link Yeah! Nancys great lists when she still lived in California. PS: She is Dj-ing in Berlin tomorrow, but sadly I'm out of money...
Dayo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Probably my all time favourite beat ballad. Can't remember what I did with this copy. link Gorgeous. I just lurve Columbia Okeh demo's. Has anybody got any British Cameo Parkway demo's to post? I know they are a bit plain in design compared to some, but there are so many that I've never seen anywhere, and though I had a pretty fair Britsish collection myself once, I never did own a Cameo demo.
Soulie78 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Next Try! Not the best record in the world, but a very nice label writing, I think.
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 (edited) Here you go Mr Dayo Edited November 5, 2004 by PeteStoneIsland
Dayo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Ok, I know it's not mega rare, but it's a record I'm proud to have:
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Pete I just had an orgasm! link Too much information
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 (edited) Edited November 5, 2004 by PeteStoneIsland
Soulie78 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Sock & Soul looks very groovy! link Yes, looks like but isn't that much to me. Next one sounds great to me and looks wonderful.
Dayo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Pete - What's the story on the Robert Parker ? Is it Australian or something?
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 It's South African - I love the other side, Lets Go Baby, but it had a radio station sticker on it
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Next one I send up will hopefully blow everyone away, this is the only copy I have ever seen or heard of...ready in 5 minutes
Dayo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 It's South African - I love the other side, Lets Go Baby, but it had a radio station sticker on it link Yeah, me too. A Wheel favourite I believe and one of the best tracks on the Sue Story compilation - remember that?
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Ladies and gentlemen I am very proud to bring you....
Dayo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 this thread has gone rather quiet - has Pete played some kind of trump card? I know its a fab record but is it completely off the scale of rare? I have no idea.
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Well everyone said it was demo only...then I got this 2 months ago
Soulie78 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Yes, Pete is probably the winner. But I'd be interested in other nice labels.
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Yeah, me too. A Wheel favourite I believe and one of the best tracks on the Sue Story compilation - remember that? link Which one - there's a couple of different ones with that title - London, Sue, UA, Island? Kent have bought out 3 Sue compilation cd's but I think they may have had problems licensing some of the material because there's quite a bit of useful stuff missing. They also show Sue to be an ego-trip for Guy Stevens because surely he must have been the only guy in the world who would have bought some of those 45's...the Baron & His Pounding Piano eh?
Dayo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 It was the island version I was thinking of. Back around 1970 it introduced me to so many good things like Phil Upchurch, Jimmy McGriff etc. British Sue was a strange label wasn't it? Lots of class and more than a few oddities - Effie Smith anyone? Bit like Action in that respect. I suppose the closest they came to a hit was Harlem Shuffle?
Dayo Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Yes, Pete is probably the winner. But I'd be interested in other nice labels. link Me too - especially British ones.
Pete S Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Haven't got any UK left really, Mick Smith is your man for those...going to post up a few random ones now
