Northern Soul Uk Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) Ever seen one of these? It belongs to 'Leeds Central' DJ Keith Atkinson. I was telling him that the 'Route' copy had just gone for £75 and the 'Buttercup' for £120. I asked him what he had it on, he said "neither" and pulled this out Anyone care to put a price on it?? Pete S Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Route acetate - £15 or £20 maybe? I'm still regarding the recent auctions as freaks. 2
Prophonics 2029 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 September th12 but what year.... It's not a Darrel Banks thing then. 1

Prophonics 2029 Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Unless it's a home made acetate as Pete says it might be a bogus copy. I had a few acetates in the 70ts weeks old or even a year old.
Kegsy Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) Why would a UK recording studio make an acetate of a record that was simply being released, as opposed to recorded, in the UK ?. I'm no expert in the recording process but I don't see the point, surely its more likely that someone wanted the record prior to its Route issue and so had an acetate made personally. Edit Ooops just noticed its got the Route catalog number on it. Edited October 22, 2014 by Kegsy
Pete S Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 It's like an early test press mate, I've had tons of acetates of things that came out on UK Polydor, Pye etc.
Amsterdam Russ Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Acetates were often cut and used as promo items sent to radio djs, etc - typically before the disc was pressed.
Northern Soul Uk Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 I understand what some of you are saying, but keith was given this from the Rep in Jumbo record Leeds, so def' not a home made Emidisc.
